Abstrakt

The history of man is a history of human suffering. The man from his beginning has not only struggled with suffering, but also sought its sense. There are various causes and multiple forms of human suffering. Disease is one of the most important causes of suffering which affects the most profound strata of the human person. The human person shares pain almost with the whole world, but suffering reaches the mystery of the human spirit, or even surpasses it, leaning on to God. In the whole cosmos only man raises the question about suffering and many times directs it to God. Can suffering have a sense, or rather it is absolutely nonsensical, and pushes the suffering man on to the abyss of despair? The authors answer this question from the point of view of psychology and theology.
