Abstract

Rzadko się zdarza, aby reżyserem filmowej adaptacji był sam autor utworu literackiego. Tak jest jednak w przypadku Érica-Emmanuela Schmitta, który w roku 2002 napisał bestsellerową powieść Oskar i pani Róża, a siedem lat później wyreżyserował film o takim samym tytule. Autorka artykułu traktuje książkę i film Schmitta jako jedną, rozłożoną w czasie i rozpisaną na dwa różne media, wypowiedź. Oba te dzieła Łucja Demby analizuje w kontekście nawrócenia samego Schmitta, opisanego w jego innej książce – Noc ognia. Zwraca ona uwagę na fakt, że twórczość tego autora jest bliska nurtowi współczesnego postsekularyzmu, kładącego nacisk na indywidualny wymiar relacji z Bogiem. Sytuacje ekstremalne, takie jak śmiertelna choroba, pozwalają lepiej zrozumieć chrześcijańską ideę Boga cierpiącego i zbliżają człowieka do niego.

It is rare for the director of a film adaptation to be the author of the literary work himself. However, this is the case of Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, who wrote the best-selling novel Oscar and the Lady in Pink in 2002, and directed a film with the same title seven years later. The author of the article treats Schmitt’s book and film as a single statement, spread over time and written into two different media. Łucja Demby analyses both these works in the context of conversion of Schmitt himself, which is described in another book of his – Night of Fire. She draws attention to the fact that the literary production of this author is close to the current post-secularism, which emphasises the individual dimension of the human relationship with God. Extreme situations, such as fatal disease, allow people to better understand the Christian idea of suffering God and to become closer to Him.
