Abstract

Pastoral theme was present since the very beginning of Church’s existence. The attention was paid mainly to practical preparation to ministry until the end of XVIIIth century. Year 1777 is considered to be the beginning of pastoral theology as a university dyscypline. There was a strong politial impact that influenced its development – a priest was supposed to be mostly a civil servant. Janowska Diocese was created in 1818, it had its own seminary. Pastoral theology was among subjects that were taught. Tsarist authorities closed the diocese in 1867 and as a result, seminary was closed as well. In 1918 Janowska Diocese was recreated, with its own seminary. Throught next years and in the postwar time „Pastoral Theology Handbook” was helpful to lecturers of pastoral theology. Bishop Jan Mazur took care of practical dimension in pastoral education. The achievements of postwar pastoral theology, especially after Second Vatican Council were shown by proffesor Ryszard Kamiński and his successors. The handbook „Pastoral Theology” as an actual help in pastoral theology classes.
