Historia Szpitala Św. Karola Boromeusza w Szczecinie

Abstract

W artykule przedstawiono dzieje nieruchomości znajdującej się w Szczecinie u zbiegu ulic Lubomirskiego i Al. Wyzwolenia w latach 1910-2014. Kongregacja Sióstr Miłosierdzia św. Karola Boromeusza zakupiła ten teren i wybudowała szpital oraz sierociniec. Do sierpnia 1944 r. siostry prowadziły tam swoje dzieło. Po zniszczeniu obiektu w wyniku nalotów alianckich przeniosły się wraz z podopiecznymi do Kołobrzegu. Po wojnie powróciły do Szczecina, niestety, ich nieruchomość użytkowana była wówczas przez Dyrekcję Okręgową Kolei Państwowych, której bezprawnie przyznano własność boromeuszek. Przez wiele lat (aż do 1959 r.) siostry bezskutecznie usiłowały odzyskać swe mienie. A ponieważ zależało im przede wszystkim na kontynuowaniu dzieła zapoczątkowanego przez ich zgromadzenie dla dobra społeczności lokalnej, dopóki trwała działalność szpitala (najpierw kolejowego, następnie miejskiego), siostry wstrzymywały procedurę odzyskiwania nieruchomości. Wznowiły ją w roku 2009, gdy władze miasta zlikwidowały szpital. Długotrwałe pertraktacje z Urzędem Miasta Szczecin zwieńczone zostały sprzedażą zagrabionej przed laty przez komunistyczne władze nieruchomości Archidiecezji Szczecińsko-Kamieńskiej. W akcie notarialnym miasto szczegółowo określiło funkcje przyszłego szpitala i Domu Pomocy Społecznej oraz sprecyzowało terminy budowy obiektu. Dziś na tym miejscu funkcjonuje, wciąż rozwijający się, Instytut Medyczny im. Jana Pawła II.

This article shows the history of the real estate located on the corner of Lubomirski Street and Wyzwolenia Street in Szczecin in the years 1910-2014. The Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Charles Borromeo bought this area and built a hospital and an orphanage there. Until August 1944 sisters worked there. As the object was destroyed by the allied strategic bombing, the sisters and their wards moved to Kołobrzeg. After the war they returned to Szczecin but unfortunately at that time their real estate was used by the Regional Management of the National Railway who had unlawfully received the sisters’ estate. For many years (until 1959) the sisters tried to regain their property without any success. Yet, as they most cared about the welfare of the local community, as long as the object was used as a municipal hospital (first a railway hospital then a municipal one), they refrained from proceedings for recovery of their property. They wanted to see the work, which had been initiated by their congregation continued. The proceedings were resumed in 2009 when the local government closed the hospital. Long negotiations with the Municipal Office successfully ended in selling the estate, which had been unlawfully seized by the communist authorities, to the sisters. In the notarial act the city precisely defined the functions of the future hospital and the care house and fixed the date of the construction. Nowadays, ever-developing John Paul II’s Medical Institute, operates in this place.
