Abstract

Powołanie teologa polega na odważnym szukaniu, podejmowaniu ryzyka wyjścia poza dotychczas osiągnięty poziom, poszukiwaniu doprecyzowania teologii. Teologia musi być otwarta na świat. Kultury nie powinno się odbierać tylko pod kątem płynących z niej zagrożeń ‒ trzeba dostrzegać w niej pewną formę krytycznego pytania pod adresem dotychczasowego kształtu wiary i Kościoła, co stwarza szansę na dokonanie autokorekty. Nie może to jednak polegać ani na ścisłym dopasowaniu się do ducha nowoczesności, ani na trwożnym wycofywaniu się. Zaczepienie kulturowe udawało się do tej pory relatywnie dobrze, ale oporu Kościół musi teraz mozolnie uczyć się. Relacja wobec nowoczesnej kultury realizowana jest zasadniczo w ramach dwóch „strategicznych opcji podstawowych”: „krytycznego kontrastu” lub „krytycznego kompromisu”. Istnieją także alternatywne, antytetyczne podejścia do relacji teologii i kultury: teologia korelacjonistyczna, strategia „destylacji wartości” z kerygmatu chrześcijańskiego i „sprzedawania ich” światu, a także zjawisko „ikonoklazmu” (Ratzinger) lękającego się afirmacji w Kościele piękna i wysokiej kultury. Zglobalizowany świat zmienia się, pojawiają się prądy przychylne i zagrażające. Wobec ogromnego zamieszania teolog musi czuwać i nawracać się, zadawać sobie pytania i szukać odpowiedzi ‒ przede wszystkim w kwestii zachowania uczciwości i odwagi wobec prawdy.

The vocation of the theologian is to boldly seek, to take risks to go beyond what has been achieved so far, to seek clarification of theology. Theology must be open to the world. Culture should not be perceived only in terms of the dangers that flow from it ‒ it must be seen as a form of critical questioning against the existing shape of the faith and the Church, which provides an opportunity for self-correction. However, this must not consist of either a close fit with the spirit of modernity or a fearful retreat. Cultural attachment has succeeded relatively well so far, but resistance the Church must now laboriously learn. The relationship to modern culture is essentially carried out within the framework of two “strategic core options:” “critical contrast” or “critical compromise.” There are also alternative, antithetical approaches to the relationship between theology and culture: correlationistic theology, a strategy of “distilling values” from the Christian keiygma and “selling them” to the world, as well as the phenomenon of “iconoclasm” (Ratzinger) fearful of the Church’s affirmation of beauty and high culture. The globalized world is changing, with favorable and threatening currents emerging. In the face of immense confusion, the theologian must be vigilant and convert, ask himself questions and seek answers ‒ above all, about honesty and courage in the face of the truth.
