Abstract

The prophet called by Yahweh preached His word and interceded for the people. As a sentry (pofeh) the prophet did not only warm the wicked to repent and renounce their sinful ways, but also watched to hear what God wanted to tell him. He looked up to Yahweh, his hope, trying to find out his will. The prophet delivered the oracle of the Word of Yahweh by signs and portents that he pointed and explained. Finally, the prophet prayed to Yahweh for the people and when they broke the covenant, he intervened so that the people could survive on the day of Yahweh.
