Abstrakt

This (third) section of the three-part study on Anglican spirituality covers the period from the late 17th c. to the present time. A strong Puritan aspect of the Caroline theology was followed by Cambridge Platonists and Clapham Sect. Methodism put a particular mark on the Church of England and finally became an independent Christian community. Both W Law and J. Butler had their own impacts on Anglicanism in their time. The 19th c. brought on one side a revival of the Catholic tradition in the Oxford Movement, and on the other led to the socalled Church of England’s Liberal Catholicism with F. D. Maurice and C. Gore. The recent century was characterized by numerous trends, both positive and negative. Perhaps the most important and recent ones were the neglect of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer and a growing secularization of the English (and not only) society and the Church itself. Among the major figures of the 20th c.-Anglican spirituality were for instance: E. Underhill, W Temple. A. M. Ramsey, K. E. Kirk, G. K. Chesterton, T. S. Eliot, C. S. Lewis. An ecumenical dimension was influenced by Catholic T. Merton, Orthodox A. Bloom and Lutheran D. Bonhoeffer.
