Abstrakt
The Infancy Gospel is the first part of the Gospel of Luke, which precedes Jesus’ arrangements to his ministry and his preaching in Galilee, then his way to Jerusalem and the Passion events. The long and complicated history of Luke 1,5 - 2,52 editing, as well as probably the late time of including this part in the Gospel indicates that, apart from the intentions presented in the preface to the Gospel, the Evangelist had some more of them. Perhaps one of his aims was to describe the appropriate relation between John the Baptism and Jesus. The author of the third Gospel repeatedly emphasizes the details, which are to prove Jesus’ superiority over John. But at the same time they are not to depreciate John’s importance.
