Metody z Olimpu i jego koncepcja wolnej woli

Abstract

Dialog „O wolnej woli” (De autexusio) Metodego z Olimpu (†311) jest pierwszym w literaturze chrześcijańskiej dziełem o takim tytule. Autor, próbując odpowiedzieć na pytanie o przyczyny zła, uznał je za akt działającego podmiotu. Celem niniejszego studium jest analiza metodiańskiej koncepcji wolnej woli, wskazanie jej źródeł i naszkicowanie kontekstu historyczno-teologicznego. Przedstawiona jest też sama postać biskupa Olimpu, słabo znana w polskiej literaturze teologicznej, oraz uwypuklone pewne jego intuicje teologiczne i filozoficzne, aktualne po dzień dzisiejszy.

Methodius of Olympus’ (†311) discourse “On Free Will” (De autexusio), is the first work in Christian literature, with such a title. In an attempt to answer the question on the origins of evil, the author acknowledges it as the practice action of man, the doer. The aim of this study is an analysis of the Methodian concept of free will, an indication of its source, and an outline of its historical-theological context. The person of the bishop of Olympus himself, barely known in Polish theological literature, is presented, and certain of his theological and philosophical insights, current to this day, are emphasised.
