Abstract

The tradition of the spiritual or allegorical reading of Scripture is an important part of the ancient and medieval heritage of the Christian actualization of the Bible. The article presents selected interpretations of the Church Fathers and medieval authors connected with the idea of the disciple of Christ as preacher of the Gospel, namely: 1. The horns of Jericho; 2. The chariot of Israel and its rider; 3. The wheels of God’s throne; 4. The hairs of the prophet Habakkuk; 5. The untied colt; 6. The rider on a white horse; 7. The jaw bone of an ass.
