Performatywna funkcja języka religijnego w ujęciu filozofii Johna L. Austina na przykładzie liturgii rzymskokatolickiej

Abstract

The subject of the reflection undertaken in the article is the performativity of religious language. The author explains its specificity, showing what is the performative function of language used in the religious space on the example of Roman Catholic liturgy. She explains what conditions must be met for religious speech acts to be valid and effective. She distinguishes and discusses two types of causative power of religious performatives: illocutionary and perlocutionary, pointing out that the effects they cause are related, on the one hand, to the linguistic action itself, and on the other hand, are extralinguistic. Going beyond the theory of speech acts, the author proposes that religious performatives, as they are an element of religious rites, be analyzed in the context of the ritual whole understood as a performance.

Przedmiotem refleksji podjętej w artykule jest performatywność języka religijnego. Autorka tłumaczy jej specyfikę, ukazując, na czym polega performatywna funkcja języka używanego w przestrzeni religijnej na przykładzie liturgii rzymskokatolickiej. Wyjaśnia, jakie warunki muszą zostać spełnione, aby religijne akty mowy były ważne i skuteczne. Wyróżnia i omawia dwa rodzaje mocy sprawczej performatywów religijnych: illokucyjną i perlokucyjną, wskazując, że skutki, jakie wywołują, wiążą się z jednej strony z samym działaniem językowym, z drugiej zaś – mają charakter pozajęzykowy. Wychodząc poza teorię aktów mowy, autorka proponuje, aby performatywy religijne, w związku z tym, że stanowią element obrzędów religijnych, analizować w kontekście rytualnej całości ujętej jako performans.
