Próba systematyzacji polskiego piśmiennictwa z lat 1957‒1980 o maryjnej pobożności ludowej

Abstract

A bibliographical search has revealed a great wealth of literature on the subject of popular Marian devotion published in the years 1957‒1980. Therefore, this presentation must be a selective one. It includes articles and studies in the fields of theology and history of spirituality. The literature presented includes bibliographical and general works and works dealing with some areas typical of popular Marian devotion in Poland: the Jasna Góra sanctuary, the vows of Jasna Góra, the great Millennium novena, the peregrination of the icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa, Marian sanctuaries, the title of Mary Queen of Poland, forms of Marian devotion (the rosary, medalets, Marian confraternities). The literature presents an image of present-day popular Marian devotion in Poland as Christocentric, ecclesial, sentimental, linked with the national culture and rooted in Polish religiousness. We can note an absence of critical reflection on Marian devotion. Therefore, many theologians put forward suggestions for further research in the field, calling for interdisciplinary collaboration, formulation of current pastoral tasks, closer contact with world Mariology and thorough theological and sociological investigations.
