Pozycja Prace nad Kodeksem Prawa Kanonicznego dla katolickich kościołów wschodnichPałka, Paweł (Częstochowskie Wydawnictwo Archidiecezjalne "Regina Poloniae", 1976)The necessity of law code for Catholic Oriental Church was already considered in the period of the preparation to the Vatican Ecumenical Council I but still it fell out to wait a long time before it was prepared. The introduction to those works was the establishment by Pope Pius Xl in 1929 Commission of Cardinals to start the preparatory studies of Oriental Codification (Commissio Cardinalitia pro studiis praeparatoriis Codificationis Orientalis). The task of that Commission was to execute critical studies historical and legal over the sources of law, next it was necessary to settle the project of canons and next to send them to the ordinaries and at last prepare to publish the former sources of the law. After accomplishment of this task that Commission in 1935 was replaced by the Pope's Commission in order to draw up the Code of Canon Oriental Law (Pontificia Commisione per la Redazione del Codice di Diritto Canonico Orientale). Based on the critical remarks of the ordinaries and other clergymen the Commission during more than 15 years prepared the expected Code, but only a part of it was promulgated. In the years 1949-1957 were published only the marriage law, lawsuit law, property law and monastic law as well as personal law, too, jointly with rules of oriental rites. Announcement of the Vatican Council II and the reforms of the Church Law by Pope John XXIII stopped the promulgation of farther parts of the worked out Code. In 1972 was established special Commission to revise that Code both the parts of the Code already published and the parts not yet published (Pontificia Commissione per la revisione del Codice di Diritto Canoncio Orientale). The matter of revision of the Code regards the renovation of the Code's rules in order to adjust them to instructions issued by Vatican Council II as well as the past Vatican council's II documents of Apostolic See published for Oriental Church.
