Pozycja Processio in ramis palmarum – typy obrzędu w średniowiecznych źródłach polskichZiętek-Krysiński, Piotr (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)After analysing more than forty medieval texts describing the course of the palm procession in Poland, we come to the conclusion that this rite developed in two ways. There were two types of celebrations besides each other: the adoration type – originated in Cracow, but later existed only in Silesia; and the mystery play type – Płock’s provenance, although popular in all the Polish dioceses of that time. The first type was not a very spectacular praise of Christ the King, while the second type was a skilfully crafted mystery play of Holy Week, which most of all it was supposed to give the participants the aesthetic impression. It should be added that the adoration type has not changed much from its beginning, but the mystery play type has gained as many variants as there were the major liturgical centres. Both forms of rituals were celebrated until the time of reforms of the Council of Trent, and some relicts survived in Poland until the mid-twentieth century.
