St. John’s Gospel is highly distinguished for the use of the word μαρτυρέω (English translation: “to testify”; “to give testimony”) in it This article presents the linguistic analysis and exegesis of the evangelist’s verses 3:11 and 3:32 in which the verb μαρτυρέω is used in active voice. Moreover Jesus is the subject of the sentences; he is the one who testifies. It is for this reason that the article has been titled “Jesus gives testimony”. Jesus has come into the world with his and his Father’s testimony but people have not accepted it. The verses mentioned above are thoroughly analyzed in accordance with the linguistic and exegetical key of biblical interpretation.
