(Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2001)The author presents in his article his doctoral dissertation. First he shows the need for a study of the idea of common good, then the opportuniuty flawing from the very welldeveloped social teaching of the American Catholic Episcopate. Finally, after the presentation of the thesis, he sets some conclusions and questions for further studies. The calling for responsobility for common good is the key-term for the proper understanding of the teaching of the American Episcopate. It allows to interpret the duties of both the society and an individual person. In fact, the person is the very sense of the idea of common good, which is the summary of all the conditions in the society the human being needs to develop oneself. According to the Cathechisin of the Catholic Church (cf. CCC 1905-1909), the justice and the peace are seen as the indispensible conditions of the idea of common good. The study of common good in the social teaching of the American Church creates the unique opportunity for a further development of the social moral theology in Poland. It would also help in better knowledge of American theology, which is presently relatively unknown in Poland.Pozycja Edward S. Herman, Noam Chomsky. Manufacturing Consent. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2004)The rapid development of new bio-techniques and procedures in modem medicine bring forward new problems, among which is the legal aspect of human actions. As the law is to protect human life and well-being, it is not meaningless, haw we define the life, and whom we decide to protect. Therefore the ethical dimension of new regulations in bioethics shape the directions of the further development of the law itself and henceforward the science and the humankind as well. The European law in this matter seems to serve more and more the strong and powerful, weakening the protection of those, who are the most vulnerable. It seems also, that the Polish law goes along as well.Pozycja Gdy nie ma innego wyjścia... Wobec stosowania szczepionek opracowanych przy wykorzystaniu linii komórkowych uzyskanych z abortowanych płodów ludzkichKieniewicz, Piotr H. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2006)Rubella is a serious viral decease, which can deeply harm an unborn child, if and infection of the mother takes place during the first trimester of her pregnancy. To prevent such a situation a number of vaccines were developed, and their use practically eliminated this decease in the USA. The problem is, that those vaccines were developed basing on WI-38 and MRC-5 cell-lines, provided from the directly aborted human embryos. In June 2003 a pro-life organization “Children of God for Life” sent a letter to cardinal J. Ratzinger with the question on morality of the use of questioned substances. In provided two years later response of the Papal Academy “Pro Vita”, a conditional affirmation was given. The article discusses arguments on the topic, questioning also some of them.Pozycja Godność osoby i prawa człowieka w kontekście dobra wspólnego w nauczaniu społecznym katolickiego Episkopatu USAKieniewicz, Piotr H. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2000)American moral thought has very specific place in moral theology, mostly because of the unique form of the American society. Well developed in last thirty years catholic social teaching in the United States seems to be an interesting voice in theological discussion on the shape of the just society. The main problem to be considered is the meaning of the common good. The key to it is the nature of the human being. It is crucial to see an individual not only as a social being, but also as a person, who has his or her own indispensable dignity based on the creation from the hand of God and salvation in Jesus Christ. American bishops issued a lot of pastoral letters and statements trying to participate in the national process of development of the just society, in which everyone has his or her own place. Issued in 1986 Pastoral (Economic Justice for All) started nation-wide discussion on the nature of a human being, a society and a relationship between them. Feature article shows a fragment of it, mainly the part concerning the dignity of the person and the problem of human rights in the teaching of American episcopate.Pozycja Gregory E. Wokół debaty nad wykorzystaniem odembrionalnych komórek macierzystychKieniewicz, Piotr H. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2005)The global discussion on the use of stem-cells has found its way to Poland. The Polish government organized a series of debates with the specialists of microbiology, ethicists of different kind of ethics, moral theologians, representatives of the Catholic Church and other religious communities, politicians and journalists. The goal was to work out a common position concerning the new potential treatment: the use of embryonic stem-cells. However, the debates showed clearly, that no agreement is possible, as a procurement of ESC is necessarily connected with the destruction of an embryo. What is more, the debates uncovered, how deeply the modern medicine and biology is demoralized: the moral values have no power anymore - the pragmatism and utilitarian arguments took their place.Pozycja Kompromis polityczny, kompromis moralnyKieniewicz, Piotr H. (Towarzystwo Naukowe KUL, 2009)It is not always clear, whether political concession is or is not a moral compromise in the same time. As long as finding the middle ground does not concerns sensitive matters, there seems to be no problem. When it is in connection to human life and dignity – the problem strikes with full force. Dr. P. H. Kieniewicz discusses the problem of political concession and the risk of moral compromise when sensitive matters – like in vitro fertilization – are to be legislated and moral clarity is to be expected from the people of right conscience. In his opinion such a distinction is possible, in accordance to EV 73.Pozycja Media wobec spisku przeciwko życiuKieniewicz, Piotr H. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2003)Modern age is known as a “mass media era”, because of the role played by the media of social communication. Radio, press, television and – lately – Internet not only report happening facts, but also modify mood among the recipients, formatting them in accordance to the will of the broadcasters. It is clear then, that they can be a great asset in fight for life, but the damage created by misuse of them cannot be overrated. Author presents first the “conspiracy against the life”, as John Paul II shows it in his documents. Afterward, there are presented duties of mass media, to be followed by the discussion on the actual role, they are playing in social life, in faith for life especially. Mass media appear to be tied too closely with their financial supporters, not concerned with the moral value of published materials. They are also running too often after popularity of the recipients, forgetting their responsibility for the common good and the true good of the human person. Anyway, they can still be used as a tool in the process of the new evangelization, if people to be working in them are professionally and spiritually prepared.Pozycja Misterium miłości. Moralna ocena tzw. białych małżeństwKieniewicz, Piotr H. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2007)Human sexuality has always been the tough point for theologians. Due to certain remnants of the Manichean thinking it has been regarded as suspicious, intrinsically evil and untrustworthy. In fact, it can easily get out of control – can dominate and destroy if one tries to play games with it. Nevertheless, the documents of the Catholic Church and Catholic moral theologians present it as given by God to be an important part of human nature, what’s more – the spousal act is to be a part of the way to salvation for those called to marriage. Therefore the exclusion of the sexual dimension of spousal life has to be seen as an illicit act, even if taken with best intentions.Pozycja Pokój i bezpieczeństwo w kontekście dobra wspólnego w nauczaniu biskupów amerykańskichKieniewicz, Piotr H. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2002)The teaching on peace by the American Episcopate is not well known in Poland. The author presents some points of their developments to show the practical connotations between the idea of the common good and the peace, which is one of the three elements of it. Peace should be based on values - such as the dignity of the human person, not just some political agreements or economical reasons. Accordingly, it is not the sufficient argument to say, that a given way to the peace is an effective one - first of all it has to be just.Pozycja Problem animacji w kontekście dogmatu o Wcieleniu i Niepokalanym PoczęciuKieniewicz, Piotr H. (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2008)The on-going discussion on abortion changes in the present time, due to redefinition of the used terminology and a priori rejection of the personal status of an embryo, in accordance to the needs of relativistic and utilitarian ethics. The author presents main arguments in the discussion, concentrating mostly on the issue of animation time. In that context, he brings into attention dogmas of the Incarnation and of the Immaculate Conception reread in the spirit of Christian personalism. According to the presented interpretation only instantaneous (simultaneous) animation can be accepted. The author recalls the John Paul II so called moral dogma in Evangelium vitae encyclical letter, and suggests, that an acceptance of an abortion should be understood as a moral heresy, leading directly to dogmatic heresy - the actual rejection of the dogma of Incarnation of the Son of God and the dogma of Immaculate Conception.Pozycja Richard Holloway.
