It deals with the problem of activities relating to anti-Church trends, which in our day, in a special way, affect culture and social life. There is a need to recognise them properly, to identify areas of their presence and to make an estimation of their threat. This kind of task is a religious obligation for Christians. Searching anti-Church trends is also a social obligation because most of these trends constitute dangers for man, which can lead to a disintegration of his spiritual-bodily nature. It turns out that a crisis of atheistic ideology has by no means weakened many liberal circles’ hostility towards Christianity and especially towards the Catholic Church. After the break down of classical atheistic ideologies new ones have appeared entering the stream of Neo-Marxism and Post-Modernism. There is a New Age among them, which gained the biggest popularity at the turn of the century, and is still increasing in its popularity. This New Age is like a gathering of all the mistakes of human thinking so far. It is known that a high point of the New Age activity was planned for the turn of the century. Along with the ending of year 2000 the huge propaganda machine of this New Age was weakened, but not halted, and still recruits new followers. We ought to be prepared that this process will go on a long time yet and will bring many bad effects. The New Age paradigm consists first of all of a belief in reincarnation and ‒ connected with it ‒ the idea of self-salvation. Cosmos-centrism ‒ that is an outlook on life, which is inherent in modem esoteric sects, inspired by Hindu and Buddhist traditions ‒ is an integral part of this paradigm. It is worth noticing that androgynous theory explains, to some extent, and justifies and even gives metaphysical groundwork for the social and civilizing acceptance of homosexuality. Promoted by this New Age thinking the concept of superman is extremely dangerous for society. The Church’s struggle with antagonistic trends makes in fact a fight for man. In this ideological dispute the main idea is a certain view of man, which is present not only in religious life, but first of all in culture and public life. The Church persistently defends the subjectivity of man and his authentic freedom based on truth and directed towards the good. Destructive anti-Catholic trends, not infrequently become, without difficulty, the ideology of political elites, businessmen, and those who hold power in this world, because these trends are propositions for life according to the formula of a “wide, comfortable, spacious way” (cp. Mt 1, 13). But the Gospel teaching of a “narrow, rocky and uncomfortable (hard) way” (Mt 7, 14) very often is rejected as a suggestion which is supposed to threaten freedom and the realization of happiness. Yet the Church does not cease to believe and proclaim that this broad way leads to perdition but a narrow way leads to life! This truth is a cardinal premise for which Christianity enters into confrontation with any of the divergent anti-Church trends.Pozycja Ben Shapiro, Prawa strona historii. O polityce przyjaznej człowiekowiMazur, Jan (Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne Zakonu Świętego Pawła Pierwszego Pustelnika, 2024)This text is a revised version of the paper that was delivered on 31 May 2023 during an online conference entitled: „What belongs to Caesar and what belongs to God? Political Responsibility”. This scientific session was organised by the Catholic Association ‘Civitas Christiana’ and its affiliated Institute of Catholic Social Teaching. The issue of human-friendly politics was signalled in the context of Jesus Christ’ s famous statement: „Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s” (Lk 20:25). The content of the presented thoughts is briefly summarized by the titles of individual paragraphs: „God and Caesar”, „Politics and its reception”, „Person-friendly politics”, „Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s proposal”, „Moral affirmation of rational politics” and „The duty of a morally just policy”. It can be stated that a human-friendly policy (close in meaning to: morally just policy, rational policy, „Christian” policy, politics with a „human” face) is just giving to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. However, the duty of rendering to God what is due to Him rests with all, both Caesar and Caesar’s subjects. The service for the truth, the right to life, the rights of the family, human dignity, freedom, justice and solidarity constitute the programme, the main guidelines of a human-friendly policy. This program ought to be the subject of Christian and civic responsibility for the common good.Pozycja Człowiek jasnogórski Ojciec Rufin Abramek, red. Zachariasz S. The author begins by presenting two concepts that are key in this discourse. These are the terms: religion and human nature. Then he undertakes an analysis of the problem, referring to the thoughts of religious experts: Rudolf Otto and Mircea Eliade and the philosopher Max Scheler. The subject of reflection is the definition of man as ‘homo religiosus’. Questioning God’s existence has a negative effect on human nature. This situation is illustrated by the views of two known philosophers, existentialists ‒ Friedrich Nietzsche and Jean-Paul Sartre. Their vision of the world was marked by unbelief in God. Life experience teaches that human nature strives for transcendent reality, longs for God. Any departure from this tendency does not, however, invalidate the religious nature of man, but certainly falsifies it. It results in the conversion of an authentic sacrum into its substitutes. In conclusion, the author draws attention to the mystery of man and God, which should be recognized. It is only in this perspective that the problem indicated in the title can be considered. The inspiration for such thinking is the famous phrase of Saint Augustine of Hippo: ‘The human soul is restless until it rests in God’.Pozycja Dobro wspólne jako wyzwanie dla chrześcijańskiej pedagogii społecznejMazur, Jan (Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne Zakonu Świętego Pawła Pierwszego Pustelnika, 2014)The present text is a revised version of an article, Common good, which has been prepared for the purpose of the Encyclopedia of pedagogical axiology compiled by the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. The most complete concept of the common good can be (bund in Catholic social teaching. According to this teaching, the common good is (should be) the real purpose of man, society and state. It is a cause of existence and a cause of establishment of each society. It is a fundamental factor in social life. Il motivates social actions of people forming a community. In particular, it motivates politics, which in the ethical sense is defined as a rational concern for the common good. A proper education, which can stimulate a genuine concern for the common good, is necessary. What is needed is an education in the spirit of respect for the common good, which assumes the adoption of a certain social pedagogy. Christianity, with its institutions, has the most opportunities in this regard, because it has an intellectually clear and internally consistent axiological system, which has been verified over the centuries.Pozycja Dokąd zmierza Europa? Augustyna z HipponyMazur, Jan (Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne Zakonu Świętego Pawła Pierwszego Pustelnika, 2024)The initiative called «spiritual adoption of a child conceived at risk of extinction» is a prayerful work. It takes the form of a socio-religious movement. Its goal is to care for the lives of unborn children at risk of abortion. Spiritual adoption involves the person undertaking it committing to daily prayer for nine months for the safety of the conceived child, whose identity is known only to God. Such prayerful accompaniment of a child throughout the entire period of its stay under its mother’s heart can be identified as a form of its adoption. A person praying for the safety of a child at risk of abortion takes on the role of spiritual parenthood. The idea of spiritual adoption is implemented in pro-life circles to overcome the propaganda of pro-choice supporters. Since purely human, rational means are insufficient, it was decided to use supernatural means above all. In the context of Catholic social teaching, spiritual adoption can be seen as an ethical effort to build civitas Dei. This is a reference to the thought of St. Augustine of Hippo. In this context, his teaching can be considered a content and cognitive paradigm that explains the general meaning of spiritual adoption. It is a fight for human life that is only in the prenatal phase. This struggle, however, takes on a more general dimension; it is an expression of the struggle between the «culture of life» (directed towards the ideal of civitas Dei) and the «culture of death» (leading to civitas diaboli).Pozycja Dylemat między „być” a „mieć” w świetle nauczania Jana Pawła IIMazur, Jan (Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne Zakonu Świętego Pawła Pierwszego Pustelnika, 1991)Pozycja Działalność społeczna Ojca Piusa PrzezdzieckiegoMazur, Jan (Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne Zakonu Świętego Pawła Pierwszego Pustelnika, 1989)Pozycja Etyczne przesłanki zmagań o status Polski w zjednoczonej EuropieMazur, Jan (Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne Zakonu Świętego Pawła Pierwszego Pustelnika, 2002)Pozycja „Forum Politologiczne” 2012, t. 14: Politologia w chrześcijańskiej myśli społeczno-politycznej, red. Papież Jan Paweł II do Prymasa TysiącleciaMazur, Jan (Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne Zakonu Świętego Pawła Pierwszego Pustelnika, 2023)The published text is an amended version of the author’s statement during a nationwide scientific conference on Christian social teachining according to blessed Stefan Wyszńyski, which took place on October 22, 2021 at the Franicsan Seminary in Łodz, Poland. The article is a reflection on the ministry of Primate Stefan Wyszyński. The considerations are inspired by the words of the Polish Pope, St. John Paul II, uttered on October 29, 1978. They contain the conviction that there would not be a Polish Pope in the See of Peter if there were no Jasna Góra and the entire period of the history of the Church in Poland related to the episcopal and primate ministry of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. The Primate of the Millennium is associated with Jasna Góra. It is not difficult to notice that the Blessed Virgin Mary, especially venerated in the Icon of Jasna Gora, was in a sense an inspiration and affirmation of his entire priestly life. He considered himself her “slave” in a deeply spiritual sense. This was reflected in the specific manifestations and effects of his pastoral ministry. It can be hoped that the almost universal recognition of his pastoral activity (shown on the basis of selected statements) allows for a substantive response to the cited papal statement.Pozycja Geneza i treść Ślubów JasnogórskichMazur, Jan (Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne Zakonu Świętego Pawła Pierwszego Pustelnika, 2006)Pledges made at the Marian sanctuary of Jasna Gora in Częstochowa have a religious and patriotic theme. Their most comprehensive example is the Covenant of Jasna Gora by the Polish Nation”, made on the 26th of August 1956. This was an initiative of the Primate of Poland, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, linked to the celebrations of a thousand years of Christianity since its acceptance in Poland in the year 966. But the concept of such vows is part of a long tradition. One of the most important events occurred on the 1st of April 1656. Then, Jan Kazimierz King of Poland made a solemn promise to the Holy Virgin that he would do everything in his power to secure Catholicism in Poland against the threat posed by Swedish Protestant invading armies. He declared that the Mother of Christ would henceforth be the Queen of Poland. The key intention of the Covenant made some four hundred years later was to restate this concept of the Holy Virgin as Queen. A further development came many years later during the first pilgrimage made by Pope John Paul II to Poland. He re-emphasised previous acts of dedication to Mary through the “Act of Faith and Trust” that he made on the 4th of June 1979. The traditional way of making such vows, and so continued by Cardinal Wyszyński, was a dedication to Mary in a ‘servitude born of love’. John Paul II modified this to become a dedication based on ‘complete trust’, so removing any negative connotations linked to historical ideas of ‘enslavement’. What is clear, nonetheless, is the practical effect of every such covenant made at Jasna Gora regardless of the way it has been phrased.Pozycja Głos tygodnika „Myśl Katolicka” (1908-1914) o ewangelizacyjnej roli prasy katolickiejMazur, Jan (Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne Zakonu Świętego Pawła Pierwszego Pustelnika, 1996)The weekly “Myśl Katolicka” (“Catholic Thought”), issued between 1908-1914 in Częstochowa by a secret religious association named “Women’s Union for Catholic Activity dedicated to Our Lady of Częstochowa, the Queen of Poland”, was a magazine which endeavoured to make real the motto of Pope Pius X: “Instaurare omnia in Christo” But first we have to remark that the magazine’s editors belonged to those who firmly acted against modernism. “Myśl Katolicka” was convinced that the press could successfully be an instrument of evangelisation. The magazine’s editors made efforts to open their readers’ eyes to the service role of the Catholic press towards the apostolic mission of the Church. They did all of this in the well-known social and religious situation, which existed then in Poland. The article is first of all an attempt at the systematisation of statements, which appeared in editorial articles. Presenting a positive vision of Catholic journalism, “Myśl Katolicka” at the same time warned against ‘bad press’, i.e. that which called into question truths of the Faith and Christian morality.Pozycja Godność osoby ludzkiej w społeczeństwie i gospodarce.
