Pozycja The Importance of Family Support in the Process of the Adjustment of Current and Former PrisonersNiewiadomska, Iwona; Fel, Stanisław (The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow, 2015)The research presented in this paper seeks answers to two questions: What is the impact of perceived support from different actors (including family members) in a situation where problems are encountered in readapting those who have been punished by incarceration? What is the impact of perceived support from different actors (including family members) in achieving the objectives in readapting those who have been punished by incarceration? The answers to these questions are given on the basis of the results obtained by examining 296 men punished by incarceration, who on account of two criteria (location and level of adaptation), were divided into 4 groups: former prisoners with high levels of adaptation, current prisoners with high levels of adaptation, current prisoners with low levels of adaptation and former prisoners with low levels of adaptation. In the determination of the level of adaptation, in the overall result, the RISB Sentence Completion Test by J. Rotter was used, while the sources of support were studied, using the Social Support Rating Questionnaire by I. Niewiadomska. Based on these results, it may be concluded that perceived family support in overcoming problems and achieving goals – i.e. from the mother, father, siblings, fiancée/wife, relatives – does not contribute to a high level of adaptation, for those who been punished by incarceration, in both current and former prisoners. It is only low-intensely perceived help from one’s siblings and fiancée/wife’s life, which leads to a reduction of the capabilities for adaptation in people who are currently imprisoned.Pozycja Poczucie wsparcia rodzinnego u nieletnich popełniających czyny karalneNiewiadomska, Iwona (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2004)On the basis of Z. Gaś’s Family Profile questionnaire an analysis has been made of the sense or family support as a factor increasing the risk of committing penal acts by juveniles. The answer to the study question put by the author has been given basing on a study of 100 boys at the age of 16-18. In the group of the subjects 50 juveniles were separated who committed penal acts and 50 boys who were positively socially adjusted. The basic conclusion from the study is the statement that the subjective sense of family support in juveniles is significantly lower than in the youth who have not violated the penal code. The sense of a low family support in juveniles resulted from significantly lower scores than in boys who were adjusted as far as family cohesion, adaptability and mutual understanding were concerned, and from significantly higher scores in pathological family roles, developmental difficulties in the family and family disintegration.Pozycja Przejawy demoralizacji i czynów karalnych u wychowanków placówek opiekuńczo-wychowawczychNiewiadomska, Iwona; Rok, Katarzyna (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2005)The article is of a theoretical-empirical character. In the theoretical part the concept of a juvenile person is explained with respect to the following criteria: demoralization, committing penal acts and use of educational and corrective measures. Also the phenomenon of “social orphanhood” is characterized. Also, attention is drawn to the Symptoms of demoralization and to penal acts committed by tutelary-educational institutions wards. In the empirical part the results of our own research concerning the manifestation of demoralization and of penal acts committed by people staying at a children’s home are presented. Studies were conducted in two groups: 30 tutelary-educational institutions wards (the experimental group) and 30 children brought up in families (the control group) were studied. Occurrence of Symptoms of demoralization and of penal acts was measured by means of I. Niewiadomska’s Questionnaire for Studying Socialization Disturbances in Youths. The obtained results allowed to state that indeed in tutelary-educational institutions wards both Symptoms of demoralization, like playing truant, escapes from home, use of alcohol, destroying objects, fights, use of violence against others and such penal acts as theft or arson occur more frequently.
