He celebrated the Mass, managed the preparation to receiving the sacraments and he administered them in proper time. The church of bishop was the centre of teaching the faithful. This place was a cathedral – decorative chair in apse of chancel, where the bishop sat and spoke from. Because of its role, this church was called the mother of all churches in a diocese and because of teaching was called a cathedral. In archdiocese it was called an archicathedral. The Holy Family of the Child Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph archicathedral basilica in Często chowa is one of the biggest churches in Poland and the beginnings of its building date back to the last decade of the 19th century. From the moment of creating new church administration and establishing the diocese of Częstochowa in 1925 this church was intended for cathedral and was cared about by later bishops. There are the main ceremonies of liturgical year, priests of all ranks take the holy orders. The most significant is the liturgy of Paschal Triduum, when the priestly vows are renewed and oils are blessed and next taken to the all diocese churches and used during the administration of all holy sacraments and on Holy Saturday adults are baptized. The interesting elements of equipment are: a chancel, can on stalls, a silver chapel of the sacred Heart of Jesus, a copper chapel of the Virgin Mary, mosaic tabernacle in the main alter and on the front walls of the Holly Cross and Christ Patocrator in the necropolis of the departed bishops of Częstochowa and epitaphs on walls expressing the appreciation for the service three departed ordinaries. The archicathedral is the place of numerous both diocesan and all-Poland events. The pulpit on the first pillar, the balustrades of side alters and the stoups in porch made from red granite former base of Alexander the Second monument from the Jasna Góra square are significant.Pozycja Ks. To make the prayer attitude easier the Church has worked out its own book of prayer, that is the Liturgia Horarum. It allows one to distribute the prayer in the time of the whole day so that each period of time could be sanctified. Elements contained in each part of the book are supposed to make the prayer attitude easier. Psalms occupy a special place in it. They are God’s address to man, and man’s address to God said by means of God’s words. Admittedly, it is Old Testament poetry, but the very title of the psalm, the sentence, the Biblical and patristic as well as hagiographie antiphon are to help interpret the Bible in the Christian way. Although the approved text talks about prayers after the psalms, in the Polish edition we are still waiting for Volume V of the Liturgy of the Hours with appropriate texts of orations. Drawing the reader’s attention to the above details of the Christian interpretation of the psalms is supposed to facilitate and to help making them one’s personal prayer and to transform them into an individual conversation with God. After all, the ultimate aim is to make the prayer poetry of the Old Testament a Christian’s personal prayer.Pozycja Liturgia nawiedzenia chorych w świetle potrydenckich ksiąg liturgicznych w Polsce (1631-1964)Wit, Zbigniew (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 1993)The liturgy De visitatone et cura infirmorum was drawn from the Roman ritual. It is quoted in the Polish edition of the ritual and remained unchanged in the following editions. Only the legal and pastoral indications placed under the ritual have undergone some modifications. The translation of the liturgical texts into mother tongues was first printed in the Chełm ritual of 1850. We find a new description of this rite in Polish in the Katowice book De cura infirmorum of 1964. It consists of five short rites on the basic of the hitherto Roman pattern. What has been added is some pious sighs (35) for the use of the sick, which are taken from the Bible and liturgy, and other prayers. In Poland an abbreviated edition of the ritual (1633) was also known. This edition contained the rite De visitatone infirmorum. It constituted a compilation Modus juvandi morientes and the rite of visiting the sick which has been described above. We do find the Polish text as early as in the Chełm editions (1850) and the Vilnius editions (1872), yet it is the Krakow edition (1892) and the new Katowice editions of the rite (1927) which go back to a full latinization of the rites under study.Pozycja Metoda badań historycznych w liturgiceWit, Zbigniew (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 1999)An integral approach to liturgies requires also taking into consideration its historical aspect. A historian of liturgies uses the subsidiary disciplines of history, but he also lakes into consideration strictly liturgical sources and the entire context of the events he describes to show the evolution of the relations between man and God. Hence a historian of liturgies studies liturgical books, the Churches legislation, forms of popular religiousness, parish registers, canonic inspections registers, theological handbooks, chronicles of the Church institutions. In his research he aims at finding the historical truth and reconstructing the liturgical tradition.
