Duchowość wybranych kantat kościelnych Jana Sebastiana Bacha

The cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach are the subject of research by both musicologists and theologians. The aim of the article is to search for the spiritual dimension of selected Church cantatas of the Leipzig cantor. At the beginning, basic information was provided about the cantata as a vocalinstrumental genre and the history of the development of Bach’s cantata. Then, the following Church cantatas were presented: „Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir“ (BWV 131), „Himmelskönig, sei willkommen“ (BWV 182), „Wo gehest du hin?“ (BWV 166), „Was willst du dich betrüben“ (BWV 107), „Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust“ (BWV 170). The main subject of the study based on the German and Polish texts and elements of a musical work was the content of God’s revelation contained in the compositions. An important point of reference was the idea of the baroque musical rhetoric. As a result of the research carried out, it was found the presence of the spiritual dimension of the cantatas and their usefulness in transmitting and receiving the content of God’s revelation, as well as shaping the inner life.

This article is an attempt to show the cult of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen and Patroness of Hungary in the context of the post-conciliar renewal of the Marian cult. The Hungarian Catholics have been venerating the Mother of Christ as their “Lady”. The titles of Our Lady of Hungary, Queen and Patroness of Hungary, even though they are used even today, are not following the requirements of the Marian renewal after the II. Vatican Council, especially regarding its anthropological, pneumatological and eschatological dimensions. A further and valid demand also arises, that the national characteristic of the cult shall not lead us away from either the persons of the Trinity or biblical– salvation-historical bases, or towards nationalising the Marian cult, but it shall always keep in sight that Our Lady of Hungary is also “Mother of All Nations”, who look upon every member of the Church as the “disciple, whom He loved”.

The article presents the Heart of Jesus as the center of priestly spirituality in the Diocese of Częstochowa. The content of this study is based on the events that constitute the historical background as the basis for the analysis of the main trait of the priest’s spirituality of the above-mentioned diocese. As part of the events, special moments of a spiritual nature were indicated within the last hundred years and what has stood the test of time, and what can be described as the spiritual tradition of the newly created diocese. The second source that has a decisive influence on shaping a specific spirituality of a priest is the Holy Bible. Then, reflection will be carried out on the self-presentation of Jesus Christ in relation to His identity, which determines the spiritual attitude and lifestyle of the Master of Nazareth. In the last part, the reflection aims to show the specific spirituality and lifestyle of a priest based on the above sources.

This article describes the activities of the clergy of the diocese of Częstochowa, which are active in the territory of the Częstochowa Voivodeship during the Carnival of Solidarity (1980 – 13 December 1981). It was published in the light of The Security Service. The officers of the repressive apparatus drew attention to the attitude of the clergy towards Solidarity. Bishops and priests celebrated services at the invitation of Solidarity activists, consecrated flags, crosses and pictures that were hung in schools and workplaces. The diocesan authorities tried to support Solidarity in the struggle for free access to Jasna Góra, in the area of sacred building, the revival of the Catholic weekly newspaper “Sunday” and the return of religious symbols to public places. Security Service pointed out all anti-state activities of the clergy. The religious- -patriotic celebrations organized jointly with Solidarity on the anniversary of important historical events, the pilgrimage to Jasna Góra, the First Week of Christian Culture and the services in connection with the attack on the life of Pope John Paul II and the illness and death of Primate Stefan Wyszyński were of this nature. The authorities were concerned about the involvement of the members of the Academic Parish Community in the Independent Student Union, which operates both at the Częstochowa Technical University and the Częstochowa Pedagogical College. The repressive apparatus took a series of measures to counteract the activity of the clergy in Czestochowa. Through the use of personal sources of information and agents, an attempt was made to get the clergy’s loyalty and weaken its relations with Solidarity, which was active in the workers’ and peasants’ community. They wanted to torpedo the efforts to attract intelligence and young people to the Church.
Orientalna wizja józefologiczna i jej wpływ na pobożność Kościoła rzymskiego

W niniejszym artykule w syntetyczny sposób ukazana została wschodnia wizja pobożnościowa związana z kultem św. Józefa. Prezentacja przykładów literatury apokryficznej oraz tekstów patrystycznych wraz z liturgicznymi elementami dotyczącymi osoby opiekuna Świętej Rodziny pozwoliły zarysować orientalną józefologię. Na tle tradycji łacińskiej jawi się ona jako uboga. Nie zmienia to jednak faktu, że pewne elementy wschodnie możemy zaobserwować w kulcie św. Józefa w Kościele zachodnim. Wystarczy tu wspomnieć chociażby zakorzeniony w świadomości i kulturze obraz św. Józefa jako starca, a także elementy pobożnościowe takie jak Akatyst ku czci św. Józefa Oblubieńca Bogarodzicy oraz ikoniczne wizerunki świętego.

The liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council had its start in works of the Pontifical Antepreparatorial Commission. Cardinal Tardini, who was the President of the commission mentioned above, sent a letter to bishops and asked them for their opinions and suggestions on subjects to be discussed during Second Vatican Council. There were fourty-three responds from Poland to the cardinal Tardini’s petition. Liturgical subjects were mainly aimed at a fuller participation of the faithful in liturgical ceremonies. The contents of the letters can be divided into those that relate to subjects, such as a language of ceremonies, reform of celebration of the Holy Eucharist, rituals of the sacraments and sacramentals, pontifical liturgy and Breviary. The letters, together with the responds from other countries and institutions, were a starting point for future conciliar discussions.

The present paper continues a series of publications on Eastern and Western Fathers of the Church in biblical catechesis. The Fathers who are recognized with the titles of the Great Doctors of the Church were selected for presentation. The series is neither focused on patristic research, nor concerned in presentation of the broad spectrum of topics related to a particular Father of the Church in catechesis, but it is intended to draw the practical application for biblical catechesis out of the life and works of Fathers. The present paper is dedicated to St. Gregory the Great. There were presented propositions for biblical catechesis resulting from the realization of purposes of gaining knowledge, acquiring skills and abilities, and building attitudes. Also the six basic tasks of catechesis are referred to.

In medieval Mariology, which rested heavily on patristic tradition and frequently referred to multifarious metaphors, imagery and allegories, there can also be found a metaphor concerning Mary according to which She can be seen as “the living book”. This metaphor has split and developed into several variations, yet they all share a common message which accentuates the idea that Christians should closely study the figure of Mary and Her mission so as to, by Her guidance, better understand the mystery of the incarnation of the Son of God, and by the same token to find the answers to the major questions concer ning Christian life. Therefore, Mary is the living book which should be diligently studied. In later years, especially under the influence of the exegesis favoured by the reformers both Mariology and Marian proclamation departed from the metaphor of a book but its essential message has been accepted and it has found its continuation in the modern idea which stresses the need to follow in Mary’s footsteps. The following of Mary’s example constitutes a more current way of understanding Her virtues and putting them into practice in our own life.

This study deals with the issue of the Angelus prayer in the light of the documents of the International Marian-Mariological Congress, which was held in Lourdes on September 10-17, 1958. The theme of the congress held at that time was the relationship between Mary and the Church. The occasion for the celebration of this congress was the hundredth anniversary of Mary’s apparitions in Lourdes. One of the topics that were taken up during the congress was the prayer “Angelus, which has biblical roots and is spread throughout the Church. The article will discuss the history of the formation of the” Hail Mary “prayer, which is at the basis of the” Angelus “prayer. The study will also analyze the previously unpublished text by Father Carlo Balić, in which he asks John XXIII to issue a papal document on the prayer “Angelus Domini”.
Płodna czystość w doświadczeniu św. Józefa

The article examines the attitude of St. Joseph as the husband of Mary. Based on the facts presented in the Gospels and the texts of Karol Wojtyła and John Paul II, it shows that the life in virgin purity did not impoverish this marriage, on the contrary, it deepened the quality of their everyday relationships. The situation highlights the importance of non-erotic factors in building marital unity and the essential value of human maturity. Joseph was presented as an example of an internally mature man who, although subject as we are to the inheritance of original sin, set an example of perfect communion of persons, human spousal closeness, tenderness, responsibility and intimacy, and a continual gift of self.
