Consumerism, linked to egoism and lack of belonging to the community, is a contemporary form of atheism. The growing gap between poor and rich societies is of equal importance. The response of the Roman Catholic Church to the phenomenon of consumerism is based on a personalised critical sense that helps to identify real needs and to confront them with one’s system of values.
