Pope Francis, in his exhortation Amoris Laetitia, expresses a firm “yes” to sex education, which he understands as education in love. The exhortation offers guidance in response to contemporary challenges. The Pope reminds that providing information cannot be separated from moral formation. As an antidote to the onslaught of harmful influences, Francis highlights the importance of developing critical thinking among young people. Pope emphasises the importance of virtues, particularly a healthy sense of modesty. In addition, he addresses the issues of contraception and the trivialisation of sexuality, pointing out their consequences, which hinder the healthy development of young people. Francis also reflects on the concept of gender ideology, offering a balanced perspective on masculinity and femininity. His teaching on this subject is further developed in the document Male and Female He Created Them by the Congregation for Catholic Education. Pope Francis’ voice serves as an essential reference point in shaping sex education for Catholics who seek the best for their children. This paper presents Pope Francis’ teaching on sex education about earlier Church teachings.
