Pozycja Focusing on the Basic Elements of Christian Faith in the Service of Renewal. The Scope and Effects of the Encyclical "Deus caritas est" More Than Ten Years after Its PublicationBaumann, Klaus (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)This paper is an attempt to outline the scope and effects of Pope Benedict XVI’s first encyclical Deus Caritas Est more than ten years after its publication in January 2006. It depicts the context of this encyclical within the papal Magisterium since Vatican II and the scope of this document as a call for the Church to readjust Herself according to the hierarchy of truths and to focus on the basic elements of Christian faith in order to renew Herself in Her mission in the service of love. In order to achieve more of the desired effects of both Pope Benedict’s and Pope Francis’ pastoral Magisterium for the renewal of the Church and also of theology, the theological curriculum needs to integrate Caritas Science as a theological discipline which studies this essential dimension of the Church from both theological and interdisciplinary perspectives.Pozycja Models of Salvific Activity of the Church. The State of Research and Future PerspectivesPrzygoda, Wiesław (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)The main objective of pastoral theologians is to develop theologically accurate and practically effective models of salvific activity of the Church, known as pastoral care. A pastoral model is a simplified, descriptive, graphical reflection of the whole or a part of the complex salvific activity of the Church, embracing both a normative and practical element of the activity, which makes it possible to analyze and evaluate it, as well as to offer some predictions for the future (N. Hepp). The aim of this article is to present the state of research concerning the current models of salvific activity of the Church within the scope of pastoral theology and to direct us towards a need to develop new models that will take the socio-cultural context into account. Nowadays, we can talk of three such models that have been scientifically discussed on a global scale (the human-divine model by F. X. Arnold, the community model by F. Klostermann, and the preferential option for the poor). It seems, then, that there is a space for a new model of salvific activity of the Church, centered on the principle of love, or alternatively, the model of dialogue.Pozycja Peter Neuner and Paul M. Ecology in the Teachings of Benedict XVIFiałkowski, Marek (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)The Church after the Second Vatican Council joined the discussion concerning natural environment, treating ecological issues as a sign of the times. The teachings of Benedict XVI concerning ecology fit the teaching of the Church after the Second Vatican Council, continuing and developing some of its elements and pointing towards new perspectives. This articles aims at addressing key ecological issues presented in the teachings of the Pope, focusing on three areas: ecology of man, ecology of the family and ecology of peace. Benedict XVI combines the issues of the protection of nature with humanity and its condition, and with the need to build good social relations vital for both keeping the balance between people and maintaining and protecting peace.Pozycja The Dialogue of Believers in God with Non-Believers: the Challenge Facing the Catholic Church in the New CenturySakowicz, Eugeniusz (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)The Catholic Church in Poland faces various difficult challenges. One of them is the dialogue with people who declare their lack of faith in God. Modern atheism in Polish society is largely a consequence of the persecution of religion conducted for decades by the institutions of the Polish communist state. Current secular tendencies also have a significant impact. The phenomenon of the lack of faith is a challenge that necessitates new forms of pastoral work. The Church takes certain actions inspired, for example, by a document published by the Polish Episcopal Conference Council for Religious Dialogue in 2003, entitled “Dialogue: a Challenge for the New Century.” Part of the document refers specifically to “dialogue with non-believers.” Papal documents on atheism and non-believers provide guidance to priests and lay members of the Church. The Magisterium Ecclesiae has generated several practical recommendations for pastoral work. What is needed is a matter-of-fact, objective description of atheism and the lack of faith. It is necessary to initiate dialogue with non-believers at the doctrinal level, by listening carefully to their views; and at the practical level, by taking actions for the common good. The dialogue should be aimed at achieving a better knowledge of the other party, i.e. understanding the articles of faith on the one hand and, on the other, the theses and rationale behind the lack of faith. Only credible witnesses to the faith in God, those who believe by their own personal choice and conviction, can guide non-believers to the truth about God, Jesus Christ and human beings. The dialogue with non-believers is difficult due to strong non-rational prejudice, e.g. emotional bias, trauma, resentment and aggressive media propaganda against religion. However, one should not give up attempts at dialogue and communication. The imperative of the dialogue stems from Jesus Christ, Son of God who, by assuming human nature, entered the state of dialogue with every human being, both believers and non-believers.
