    Pytanie o Boga w perspektywie cierpienia, a co za tym idzie o Jego stosunek do ludzkiego doświadczenia cierpienia jest newralgicznym punktem teologii, a odpowiedź na nie łączy się nierozerwalnie z samym obrazem Boga i należy do istoty chrześcijańskiej wiary. J. Ratzinger/Benedykt XVI wydobywa obraz Boga wyłaniający się z biblijnych historii cierpienia: Abrahama (Moria), Hioba, a w końcu – ich historiozbawczego apogeum – samego Chrystusa (krzyż). Nawiązując do opowieści o ofierze Izaaka, Papież czyni ze słów Abrahama „Bóg się zatroszczy” niejako oś, a zarazem puentę teologicznej analizy problemu i wskazuje na wielorakie konotacje tego sformułowania. Bóg nie rozwiązuje tajemnicy cierpienia poza sobą; dlatego człowiek może uzyskać odpowiedź tylko powierzając Bogu cały ciężar swojej egzystencji. Szczerość, ufność i pokora modlitwy pozwalają człowiekowi dostrzec i rozumieć, że cierpienie – choć pozostaje dramatem i budzi uprawniony sprzeciw – okazuje się miejscem poznania Boga, który w nim (w cierpieniu) ostatecznie „podmienia” człowieka, ratuje go i zbawia.

    Within the frames of contemporary Christology, which has returned to patristic tradition, it is once again emphasised that the obedience constitutes the highest manifestation of life and message of Jesus Christ. It is in obedience where personal identification of the being and mission of Jesus, expressing His relation with God the Father and defining His exceptionality, finds its realisation. This perspective allows a profound interpretation of Jesus’s work for the benefit of man, which goes beyond all immanent reductions. This view becomes also a starting point for the appropriate understanding and interpretation of the act of salvation and by the same token of the new covenant with God. This article presents the obedience of Christ in relation to the mystery and history of the covenant which constitutes, to some extent, an introduction to the correct representation of the form and content of this obedience and simultaneously to determination of its soteriological meaning.

    Christ’s obedience which belongs to the mystery of the covenant is characterized by a specific form and content. It is focused on the fulfilling of the will of the Father, constituting the raison d’etreof Jesus Christ and internally defining His entire mission of salvation. Addressing the issue of Christ’s obedience as a crucial dimension of His existence and His divine mission among people implies the reflection on His love, His will to give Himself to save the world and His freedom of the Son of God who became man “for us”. Thus, the Christology of obedience constitutes the foundation of anthropology and defines its appropriate form. Therefore, it is in Christ’s human freedom, based on and expressed in His obedience, where our freedom of men and Christians is decided.
