Pozycja Communist Totalitarian Regime and the Status Quo of the Catholic Church in the Context of Post-War Reality of Poland (1945−1956)Ficek, Ryszard (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)The fundamental purpose of this article is to present the specificity of the totalitarian communist regime to the status quo of the Catholic Church functioning in the Polish People’s Republic in the early post-war period (1945−1956). Therefore, the analysis of the discussed issues allows one to expose the nature of the Stalinist system of repression described as the “dictatorship of the proletariat,” taking into account the tough and challenging situation of the Catholic Church, forced not only to fight for her survival but above all to preserve the Christian identity of the Polish nation. The reinterpretation of the Stalinist totalitarian system from the perspective of Christian personalistic praxeology discloses its unprecedentedly criminal nature. Moreover, the presentation of the fundamental assumptions of the totally anti-human and anti-Christian paradigm that characterizes the “dictatorship of the proletariat” makes it possible to interpret Stalinism in terms of not only defining but also legitimizing and even authenticating one of the most terrifying and degenerate forms of totalitarian systems of the 20th century. However, this is of crucial importance, specifically today when many emerging ideological trends often downplay the criminal nature of Stalinism and even treat the “totalitarian model” – particularly communism – as a “specific historical phenomenon” attempting to resolve many complex and multifarious sociopolitical, cultural and economic issues.Pozycja Ks. They were, in turn, Christian Szmitt (1768−1819), Cistercian Lawrence Franke (1820−1840), Franz Pawelke (1842−1876), Anton Gaertig (1886−1890) and Albert Hannemann (1891−1927). In the years 1876−1886 the parish was vacant due to Kulturkampf. Franke, Pawelke, Gaertig and Hannemann were German, but only Pawelke did not speak Polish, and Hannemann had a fairly mediocre knowledge of Polish; the rest spoke Polish to such an extent that they were able to preach and confess. We do not know what nationality Szmitt was ‒ he knew both Polish and German, both correctly. In Skwierzyna, where in the 19th century the majority of Germans lived, knowledge of Polish was hardly needed. In terms of managing the parish, Szmitt was quite passive, he could not cope with the reconstruction of the parish church, which fell into disrepair during the Napoleonic Wars. Franke led to a makeshift reconstruction of the church. Pawelke, who managed the reconstruction and partial rebuilding of the church, gave it a neo-Gothic decor. Gaertig had been in the parish for too short a time to register anything. Hannemann proved to be an active shepherd soul.
