This article deals with the problem of school’s mission in the teaching of John Paul II. First of all it presents the purposes, functions and tasks of the public school. Then the article describes the meaning of the word “to bring up”, its specific understanding in the pope’s teaching, the educational problems and people responsible for the process. Finally, it shows the need of cooperation between school and family. This cooperation ought to lead to creating a real educational community consisted of teachers, parents and pupils.
