In this article the author concentrates on the fundamental issue concerning the relations between proclaiming the Gospel and social activities, in other words, between the testimony of the word and the testimony of life. Firstly, he presents quite extensively how this relation has been interpreted among the vast groups of Western Christians, since the second half of the 1960s. Then he presents the reaction of Pope Paul VI to that interpretation, contained in the apostolic adhortation Evangelli nuntiandi. In respect of the papal teaching, he focuses on the testimony which is given by proclaiming the Gospel and Christians’ authentic life of faith.
