The paradigm for this eschatology is St Stephen’s vision of Christ during his martyr’s death (Acts 7:55–56). The best example of Eucharistic eschatology is the Gospel of St Luke, where the Eucharist is firmly tied with the reality of the Kingdom of God. After Christ’s resurrection each Eucharist constitutes participation in the eschatological feast in which the Master of Heaven and Earth serves the participants and gives Himself as nourishment. The Eucharist makes this initiation complete and is its ultimate stage for the work of Jesus Christ culminates in it. The faithful are born anew in Baptism and strengthened by the gift of the Holy Spirit, who made them in the likeness of Christ. They unite with Him in His only Sacrifice. In this way, the communion of life with God and unity of the People of God become real, whereby the Church is revealed and built. Moreover, the Eucharist celebrated in a community deepens the communion with Christ, renews the life of grace received at Baptism and makes it grow in Christian charity. This is why the article starts with the Sacrament of the Altar presented as a source and height of life for the Church and its members. Then, the study goes on to present the preparation for the First Communion in the light of documents created by the Universal Church and the Church in Poland. Even though 50 years have passed since the Council, this is still a current issue. Since the liturgy of the Word is an integral part of sacramental celebration, the signs present in the Divine Word must be attributed full importance in order to strengthen faith, as must be homily which is an emanation of the Word of God. However, this crucial element in the celebration of each Sacrament of the Church virtually does not appear in pastoral work. The desire of the Church in respect of homily is expressed chiefly in liturgic books for the celebration of Holy Sacraments. It is worrying that this issue is given little attention in Homiletic Directory. A frequent lack of homily in the administration of the Sacraments and a lack of detailed guidance in Homiletic Directory call for an exploration of this issue. The goal is to answer the question about the Church’s wishes regarding the place and content of a homily in the celebration of the Sacraments out of Holy Mass, expressed in liturgical books for celebration of the Sacraments and adapted to the customs of Polish dioceses.Pozycja Ks. A search for models for sermons started, which would have all properties of a good homiletic sermon. An example of such a sermon were those delivered by Father Jean Berthier MS. A Frenchman born around the mid-19th century, he was a model of a folk missionary for the clergy of that time and a model of retreat preacher. His inspiration lay in the Holy Bible and the teaching of the Church Fathers supported by examples taken from the lives of saints. He drew upon great orators but he did not attach much importance to the principles of rhetoric and decorous language. In his sermons he raised mainly subjects connected with morality. He called upon people to mend their ways, reminding them about eternal life. His sermons were simple and easy to understand, even for uneducated listeners. He brought his sermons to perfection, both intellectually and spiritually.Pozycja Ks. In the early centuries of Christianity the very presence of catechumens during the first part of Sunday liturgy and the rite of sending them away reminded the congregation of the central role of the baptismal covenant in the life of Christians. The old division into the Mass of Catechumens and Mass of the Faithful was a reflection of that. Today the Church makes a reference to Baptism in the Sunday aspersion. In the liturgical year cycle the period of paschal preparation (Lent) creates a parallel formation path for catechumens and the Christian faithful who accompany them. During the Easter Vigil, which constitutes the pivotal point of the liturgical year and the principal time for catechumens to get baptised, the whole Church renews baptismal promises. Parents and godparents renew them when children are baptised, while the youth do during Confirmation. Also the administration of Viaticum should be preceded by a renewal of the profession of faith. The renewal of baptismal promises is envisaged by a ritual celebrated during major exorcisms. The typical editions of postconciliar liturgical books provide the text of questions and suggest answers in the singular form, which implies a personalistic dimension of the renewal. In recognition of the meaning of Sunday and the Eucharist for the Christian faithful, the Apostolic See issued Directorium de celebrationibus dominicalibus absente presbytero (Directory on the celebration of Sunday in the absence of a priest). As a result, numerous episcopal conferences ‒ in consideration of local circumstances ‒ developed not only separate standards but also liturgical books featuring the celebration of the Sunday liturgy in which the leadership of deacons and lay leaders who have been appointed by the bishop is described. The American Episcopal Conference has issued a book entitled Sunday Celebrations in the Absence of a Priest in English and Spanish (Celebraciones dominicales en ausencia de presbitero), used by deacons and lay leaders during Sunday and holiday celebrations of liturgy in the absence of a priest. The article presents both general indications and legal norms of bishops in this respect, the rights of parish priests, deacons and the laity, as well as the form of liturgical celebrations without a priest. The main argument points to the need for such preparation of future priests to competently lead the religious community. The level of liturgy is highly dependent on them while music plays an important role in it. Author presents the theoretical assumptions contained in the teaching of the Church. They show clearly the need for a thorough musical education of priests. In addition, there were presented two music programs of teaching in Polish clergy seminaries. In his exhortation Verbum Domini, Pope Benedict XVI presents the sacramentality as analogous to sacramental action. The article demonstrates a relationship between the sacramentality of the Word and the contemporary, mystery-centred vision of liturgy. The treatment of liturgy as a celebration of the mystery of Christ has consequences for the perception of the Sacraments and, on a broader plane, for the perception of the Divine Word in liturgy. The Word and Sacrament are then those elements of liturgy in which individual dimensions of its mystery character can be seen. Over the centuries the Incarnation of the Son of God was given emphasis in various ways through ceremonious celebration of this mystery. Among many liturgical customs are Sunday processions during Advent, at Christmas, and festivities held in this time and Sundays until 2 February. Sunday processions were known in the old Polish tradition and this custom was sanctioned in the Piotrków Ritual in 1631, but it does not feature processions for Advent Sundays, Christmas period, and holidays falling within this period. Liturgical texts intended for these days are present in four editions of the Wrocław Ritual of 1723, 1775, 1794 and 1847. The processions started with the singing of appropriate antiphons, which had their counterpart in the texts of Officium divinum of that period or a liturgical day. The antiphon Missus est Angelus Gabriel... for Advent Sundays was an exception. It was intended for the monastic liturgy of the 11th/12th centuries, and it can be found in antiphonary Saint-Maur-les-Fossés. During a procession, statio in the middle of a church was an important point for worship. A verse or a prayer was said concluded with the singing of an antiphon. The prayer was typically found in a missal form for a particular feast day except for Advent, when the prayer was read from a form for Marian masses. Notably, the well-known antiphon Pax aeterna... was sung only on Advent Sundays, which was replaced by the antiphon Hodie Christus natus est... during Christmas. Antiphons concluding processions, however, were taken from an officium, as it was done during Advent or Epiphany. The antiphon O beata infantia... is an exception, which is sung on the very Nativity Day, Circumcision Day, and on Sundays falling after Epiphany until the Fest of the Purification of the Virgin (2 February). This antiphon was present in the monastic tradition, for example in medieval antiphonaries of Saint-Denis and Saint-Maur-les-Fossés.
