After five years which have passed since the promulgation of John Paul II's Code, the author attempts to characterize its content. Firstly, he emphasizes the significance of epistemological assumptions in formulating the statements which evaluate this Code. The former pio-benedictine codification of 1917 was drafted on the legal-philosophical assumptions appropriate to the conception societas perfecta. The present Code was bom of the spirit of Vatican Council II, which Council inspired the reformatory work on that Code. In view of a legislative technique we deal here with a recodification, though this work has been filled with new doctrinal contents introduced by the recent Council, and mainly by its ecclesiology. At the basis of this new codification one can perceive the assumptions of the ecclesiology of an institution inherited from the previous Code, as well as the councillar ecclesiology of communio. Despite this ambiguity the Code should be interpreted and applied according to the criteria of councillar doctrine. Of its innovatory character will decide, to a great extent, the Church practice. The author points to great opportunities which the present Code offers in valuing the role of lay people, developing particular legislation, influencing legislative processes by cultural elements and making various forms of consecrated life autonomous. It seems that all these opportunities have not been up to now taken advantage of. The author has in mind also legislation and canonic law in Poland. Finally, the author points to a prophetic function of the law also within the Church.Pozycja Ks. In 1809 a decree was issued. It contained a fixed rate of fees which were supposed to be paid to the clerk of a registry for his office work. If a religious service was connected with this work, then a parish pariest took half of the fee fixed for civil work, because he performed this service. The fixed rate of fees was not eagerly charged by the religious clergy, because it did not embrace all kinds of religious service; thus a new rate was worked out and declared in 1818 at the time o f Polish Kingdom. It embraced only religious services, hence the rate of 1809 was still valid. In the 1850s the Russian government set to work out a new rate, bishops would send their projects, but the government stopped at confirming the operative rates of 1809 and 1818, and nothing changed in this matter until the end of the period in question.Pozycja Stowarzyszenia katolickie w II RzeczypospolitejStrzeszewski, Czesław (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 1988)The interwar period was characterized by the development of many social, economic, cultural and political organizations. The author describes the structure, development and achievements of Catholic associations. Those associations dominated at that time. Before the author goes on to review them, he explains the name of a Catholic association. The Association of University Youth „Regeneration” has been presented most broadly, aside to other youth organizations, professional organizations and Catholic Action. The author emphasizes that those associations, in their ideological principles were precursors of the social doctrine of the post-councillar Church.
