Pozycja A Brief Commentary on Ecumenism and Its “Reception” in Romanian OrthodoxyGligan, Ciprian (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)Ecumenism is a very generous and full of challenges topic that has generated extremely diverse opinions over the years, from hostility and vehement criticism to favorable, even enthusiastic attitudes. In the first part of this short essay, I want to talk about the difficulties in understanding the ecumenical movement and its role in establishing collaborative relationships between Christians from various denominations in Romania, noting the institutional and personalistic dimensions of ecumenism. In the second part, I will refer to the ecumenical dynamics of Romanian Orthodoxy (including the distorted reception of the decisions of the Holy and Great Synod of Crete, 2016), marked by the Church’s openness to dialogue, the indifference or ignorance of contemporary society towards religious issues, but also of the necessity of God’s presence in the world, the only guarantee that reconciliation, understanding, collaboration and communication is possible among people of different beliefs, nationalities, cultures and traditions.Pozycja Cyril Lucaris and the “Unfinished” Reformation of Romanians in TransylvaniaTăut, Madalin Vasile; Dumitrașcu, Nicu (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)The occurrence of the Protestant Reformation in the sixteenth century in Western Europe caused a real earthquake inside the Roman Catholic Church, also causing extremely interesting reverberations in the Eastern Christian world. This short essay intends to show the impact that the reformation has had on the Orthodox Romanians in Transylvania, who, although a numerical majority, were not recognized as a nation though their faith enjoyed certain tolerance. The episode that we will examine here takes place in the early part of the XVII century during the time of Prince Gabriel Bethlen. Under the pretext of the so-called religious, cultural, and even national emancipation of the Romanians, he proposed their conversion to Calvinism. In this regard, he asked for help from the ecumenical Patriarch Cyril Lucaris, an unusual hierarch for his time, flexible and firm at the same time, who was open to dialogue with other Christian denominations. With good knowledge of the political and religious realities in Transylvania, Patriarch Cyril replied to him in the most possible ecumenical way, defending the right of the Orthodox Romanians to keep their faith, language and customs they hold in common with their brethren beyond the Carpathian Mountains, Moldova and Wallachia.Pozycja Notes on Religious and Moral Education in Three (Modern) Principles of the Divine Pedagogy of Saint John ChrysostomKrauciuc, Ioan George (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)The evolution of any society directly depends on the quality of its educational system, and it must include two essential components. The first considers education itself, that is, the gradual process of learning and accumulating general and special knowledge, aimed at discovering and exploiting the abilities of every individual. The second refers to the religious moral education based on the same principles, but which has a more noble goal, namely, to cultivate and develop a person’s spiritual qualities in view of their social integration and the establishment of normal interpersonal relationships. In this essay, I set out to show that within the general framework of the elementary education process, which takes into account the age and training of every individual, religious-moral education has always had a predominant role in society because it makes the junction between material, natural aspirations and the spiritual that are as important as the former. A human being is a microcosm in which two worlds, apparently contradictory but fully compatible, meet, namely, the human and the divine, body and soul, earth and heaven. My analysis considers the experience of Saint John Chrysostom, whose pedagogical principles, although based on strategies specific to the religious domain, are not in disagreement with the methods of modern pedagogy, because both pursue the finality of the educational act. In other words, I intend to show that, despite the passage of time, the principles of Chrysostom’s pedagogy retain their relevance and effectiveness.Pozycja The Illusion of European Emancipation and/or a Study on the Spiritual “Ambivalence” of the Romanian diasporaBuga, Eugen Ioan (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)One of the most significant problems faced by Romania is the alienation of its diaspora citizens from their language, faith, culture and popular traditions. In the first part of this short essay, I will discuss the servile attitude adopted by many Romanians in the West to be accepted more easily into a different society organized according to other principles, risking the loss of their identity. I will also make a few remarks about the danger of ideological imports. In the second part, I will refer to the bizarre situation in which educated young people, under the influence of progressive anti-Christian ideologies, convinced of opportunism, strangely confuse Christian principles and communist doctrine.
