Pozycja 6th European Society on Family Relations Congress Families in a Changing Europe: Challenges, Conflicts and Intervention. Lillehammer/Norwegia, 26-29 września 2012Kalus, Alicja (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2012)Pozycja A brief anthropology of familyDuque, Joào Manuel (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2014)This article intends to think the concrete reality of the family from the perspective of a philosophical anthropology, based on the biblical-Christian hermeneutic model. At the same time, starting from this particular anthropology, it suggests a general anthropology according to a family matrix. This anthropology is understood as relation of different persons, based on the model of donation. The concrete mode of its accomplishment occurs in family relations, like filiation, fraternity, conjugality and parenthood.Pozycja Ackerman, J.P. and Horowitz, L.M. While by the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century scholars as well as laypeople had a strong tendency to deny and minimize this socio-pathological phenomenon, by the end of the 20th century, thanks to scientific progress and public awareness raising, the society began to accept the cruel truth about child sexual abuse. This topic is no longer such a big taboo and people are able to speak more openly about it (especially through the media, social networks and nongovernmental organizations). Readiness to act – the courage to intervene, help victims and hold perpetrators accountable – is also changing.Pozycja Adult sexual dynamics in persons with the history of sexual abuseRepič Slavič, Tanja (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)Sexuality is most natural and healthy when it is part of an emotionally genuine relationship, not even as its central part but rather as an upgrade of the intimacy of two people who are mutually loyal, committed, loving and respectful. However, if an individual was sexually abused in childhood, they m ay have suffered the severest consequences of sexual abuse trauma in the area of sexuality, and their experience of sexuality will be completely different from those who were not sexually abused. The article first describes what children learn about sex if they have been sexually abused, as this experience is very much related to the most common behaviours and experiences in adult sexuality. Then we present a theoretical overview of research on sexuality in adults who suffered childhood sexual abuse. The theory will be supplemented and supported by the statements of individuals who have been attending a therapeutic group for the sexually abused in childhood for two years. The statements quoted in the article refer to the period prior to the therapeutic process. Clinical experience shows that, until the victim has resolved the trauma of sexual abuse, the dynamics between the offender and the victim during childhood abuse is most often very similar to the dynamics of the abused with their partner, even in their sexual life.Pozycja Affect and psychological well-being in spouses of cancer patients: the mediating role of meaning in life and self-efficacyKrok, Dariusz; Gerymski, Rafał (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2021)The examination of the psychological functioning of cancer patients’spouses implies that affect and personal resources play an important role in their psychological well-being. This is a consequence of the severe stress caused by the medical conditions of a spouse and of responsibilities related to caregiving. This study aimed to examine the role of affect and purpose-oriented personal resources (meaning in life and self-efficacy) in shaping psychological well-being in the spouses of cancer patients. The participants were 214 spouses of gastrointestinal patients who were either undergoing medical treatment in hospital units or attending scheduled clinic appointments at outpatient medical clinics. The Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS-X), Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWB), Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ), and General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) were used. The results indicated that positive affect was positively correlated with meaning in life, self-efficacy, and psychological well-being. In contrast, negative affect was negatively correlated with positive affect, meaning in life, self-efficacy, and psychological well-being. The mediation analyses demonstrated that meaning in life and self-efficacy were mediators between positive and negative affect and psychological well-being. The mediating function of meaning in life and self-efficacy revealed the significant role of personal resources based on purpose and self-motivation in the relationship between affect and psychological well-being. Positive and negative affect can influence motivational processes that enable patients and their families to constructively deal with challenging and illness-related situations. Caregivers and medical staff could take into account the important role of purpose-oriented resources as they affect the functioning of both patients and their families.Pozycja Alcoholism as a way of dealing with emotions and transformation in relational family therapySimonič, Barbara; Cvetek, Robert (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2022)Alcoholism, which is a major public health and social problem, can be viewed from several perspectives, as its occurrence is a multifaceted phenomenon in terms of its development (causes), effects, and maintenance. The Relational Family Therapy paradigm looks at alcoholism and its dynamics in relation to dysfunctional affect regulation. Dysfunctional affect regulation and the general inability to manage emotions are often mentioned in relation to the development and maintenance of alcohol addiction. The mechanism of affect regulation generally refers to internal processes that allow an individual to maintain their emotions to a degree that feels still bearable for them. According to these assumptions, alcoholics drink in order to cope with difficult emotions, either because they have more negative emotional states than others do, or because they lack the internal resources to cope with these negative emotions. For them, consuming alcohol is a series of repeated attempts to regulate heavy emotions, which often stem from painful past experiences. The process of Relational Family Therapy, therefore, as treatment of addiction, focuses on identifying and transforming the dysfunctional regulation of affect, which is behind addictive behavior. By means of action research methodology, this paper presents the approach of Relational Family Therapy in working with an alcoholic client, with an emphasis on the aspects of affect regulation. We show how the client’s alcohol use appeared as a dynamic of inappropriate regulation of a painful core affect. In the process of Relational Family Therapy, a more functional regulation of the core affect was established, thereby reducing symptomatic behavior (alcoholism) in the client.Pozycja Altern und SinnsucheGeiszelhardt, Sára; Kovács, Gusztáv (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2018)Ageing and death manifest themselves in contemporary culture as part of negative side of life. Despite all attempts to dissolve them they appear as inevitable and fateful. What can we do with ageing when it is part of our fate? Is it possible to integrate the knowledge and experience of ageing and death in our lives, even if they turn out to be alienating and remind us constantly of the finiteness of life? What position should we take in relation to the fact of our inevitable death if we want nevertheless say yes to life (Frankl)? The article finds the answer in the concept of ataraxia, a virtue which needs to be nurtured all through our lives.Pozycja Attitudes of university students towards institution of a marriageIvkov-Džigurski, Anđelija; Đukičin Vucković, Smiljana; Stajić, Stefan; Sekulić, Milena; Ivanovic Bibić, Ljubica; Milankovic Jovanov, Jelena; Dragin, Aleksandra (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2022)Until recently, marriage was the only socially acceptable community of two partners of different gender, with the goal of creating a family and prolonging the human race. The aim of this paper is to examine the attitudes of University students towards marriage and family. The research was based on the survey regarding the attitudes of students from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia towards institution of marriage. Collected data were analysed by using the SPSS statistical software. The main results indicate that 93.8% of respondents want to get married one day; an ideal number of children for a family to have been two (48.4%); 54.6% of respondents strongly agreed that if being in a marriage does not work properly, they should divorce. The results of these analyses and their limitations suggest guiding a future research according to different attitudes of respondents. This research provides the most ambitious and systematic analysis to date the attitudinal evidence on the attitudes of family, future children, and divorce among University students.Pozycja Away From Home. Experiencing Changes in Family Relationships by Ukrainian Refugee Women Staying in PolandKopczak-Wirga, Anna; Kasperska-Kurzawa, Kamila; Wirga, Tomasz (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2023)Rok od inwazji Rosji na Ukrainę przynosi szereg pytań dotyczących uchodźców przybywających na terytorium Polski. Pozycja Balancing between professional and private life. Analysis of psychological determinants in family contextKornaszewska-Polak, Monika Joanna (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2021)The idea of reconciling work with personal life was in its heyday at the turn of the 20th century when people realised that it was impossible to completely separate these inextricably linked spheres of human existence. Neglecting either of them, and not only in the scientific discourse but also in everyday life, is in many aspects detrimental to close relationships and to the performance at work. Nevertheless, a perfect combination of these two dimensions of human activity seems almost unattainable, as a growing number of contemporary studies show. Becoming involved in one entails some negligence in the other. The family context represents a relevant example of the attempts to reach the work-life balance. It is increasingly frequent that the contemporary young adults’generation prioritise work, individual career, and personal development in their hierarchy of values. They delay their decisions on starting a family, having children, or simply settling down until they have achieved an adequate status and prosperity. Seeking to satisfy the need for close bonds, many young adults engage in only temporary relationships (cohabitation, swingers), but also create substitutes thereof. This generation succumbs to a growing sense of loneliness, despite the fulfilling careers or satisfying material and social statuses.Pozycja Best practice in caring for dementia patients, in an institutional setting, with a family therapy approachSzücs, Attila András; Németh, Orsolya (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2018)Pozycja Between ideal and morality. Family and its socio-moral problems and challenges in RomaniaIloaie, Ştefan (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2012)In Romanian society, family was one of the fundamental “institutions”, strongly supported by religious convictions, by tradition, stability and need of social safety. Inside a family man is educated from a religious point of view, he receives the model of behaviour he needs in society, he discovers the first social relations. Until today, these characteristics have been preserved in many families in Romania and they represent the foundation of a good training for young people for beautiful life, well anchored in the realities of the society. After the fall of communism in Romania at the end of 1989 and especially when the first manifestations of the globalization of secularization occurred, family was and still is confronted with new and unparalleled challenges. It has lost a lot of its value, since young people consider that they can live together without an engagement blessed by the Church and legislated by the state. Instead of assuming the responsibility of becoming a family, young people have now other priorities in life: career, their own happiness, social and economical fulfilment. These are the reasons why the average age of contracting a marriage is very high. The model of the monoparental family seems to be now in fashion, since more than 20% of children in Romania live in such a family. There is an increasing number of divorces, concubinages, abortions, people who neglect the education of their own children, of people who do not get married any more. Some of the members of Romanian families live and work abroad – the official number is 900,000 – and this situation has serious consequences upon family itself and especially upon the children who remain at home. All these realities have placed family, in the last 10 years, in the center of attention of all the institutions in Romania which have a social and educational impact. Churches especially engaged themselves in supporting family, in protecting it and rendering its value again. They hope that young people and members of present families will discover and assume the values of the most important institution of moral and social education.Pozycja Bezdzietność – wybór, ograniczenia, czy splot okoliczności? Jakościowa analiza procesu pozostawania bezdzietnąMynarska, Monika (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)Even though survey studies recurrently show that Poles want to have children and that parenthood is important to them, more and more Polish women remain childless. This discrepancy calls for a closer consideration. We need to understand a nature of childbearing desires and intentions much better and investigate obstacles which m ight prevent women from fulfilling them. In this paper, I analyse 20 in-depth semi-structured interviews with childless women aged 37-46. The qualitative methodology is applied to explore what preferences, circumstances and life-choices of the respondents have led them to childlessness. The respondents discussed several factors: A lack of a partner, fecundity problems, postponement of childbearing related to employment or life priorities other than family and childbearing. However, the results show that it is rarely possible to find a single reason for remaining childless, as various factors collide and interact in women’s lives.Pozycja Bezdzietność z wyboru w konfrontacji z podstawowymi wartościami małżeństwa. Perspektywa katolickiej teologii moralnejGlombik, Konrad (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2012)Contemporary socio-cultural changes and the mentality associated mainly with individualism have a significant impact on marriage and family. This is manifested not only in the change of the concept of marriage and family, but also in delaying the decision of marriage, alternative forms of marital life, acceptance of divorces and infidelity, as well as transformation in the understanding and realization of the procreative function of marriage. The report published by CBOS in January 2010 presenting the results of the studies on the procreation attitudes of Poles shows that the vast majority of respondents under 30 years of age are planning to have an offspring, but there are also those who do not intend to have children. There are many reasons for this approach to procreation, and the phenomenon of voluntary exclusion of children from marital life is referred to as childfree by choice. Although childlessness affects nowadays many marriage couples, and it has its roots in various biological and social reasons, being childfree by choice is a conscious attitude of exclusion offspring from marital life, in a situation where parenting is possible, based on different motives and not just for some defined period of time in marriage, but for the whole martial life. The phenomenon of childfree by choice is the subject of researches of various sciences, including sociology, psychology, anthropology, cultural studies and philosophy. The childfree by choice, understood as a specific attitude to formation of marital life, is also an interest of moral theology, especially of its important branch which is the morality of marriage and family life. The following text is an attempt to assess the problem of the childfree by choice from the perspective of catholic moral theology and its confrontation with the core values associated with the meaning of marriage and family life. One of the fundamental values of marriage is the vocation of spouses to parenthood, the negation of which is the attitude to the childfree by choice. Another problem that arises in connection with the conscious resignation by spouses of parenting is the understanding of the nature of spousal love, which is the foundation of marriage. Childfree by choice is an attitude justified by the spouses with different reasons, including responsibility, which makes it important to confront the issue from the perspective of the concept closely connected with married life, namely responsible parenthood. Marriage and the fulfillment of its procreative function is for the catholic moral theology an important social value, consequently also from this point of view the attitude of conscious choice of childfree in marriage was analyzed. Wnioski płynące z prezentowanych badań mogą stanowić podstawę do tworzenia programów edukacyjnych skierowanych do (przyszłych) matek oraz do przygotowania specjalistów wspierających kobiety pełnieniu roli rodzicielskiej.Pozycja Biomedyczne aspekty kształtowania płci somatycznej. Znaczenie prenatalnego okresu życiaLichtenberg-Kokoszka, Emilia (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2016)Human sexuality affects m any biological, psychological and social aspects. It is connected with gender identity, procreation, experiencing and giving pleasure. From a biological perspective sexual activity is essential for reproduction and its original purpose was to maintain the human species. The article presents the genetic basis of sex determination, differentiation of germ line cells, development of gonads as well as internal and external genital organs, significant for the development of gender identity and propagation. Several factors determining and disrupting proper development of human sex were presented in this article.Pozycja Changes in aggression and stress in perpetrators and victims of domestic violence due to the “Blue Cards” procedureRogowska, Aleksandra Maria; Kardasz, Zofia; Wicher, Sebastian (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2020)The research aimed to examine changes in stress and aggression syndrome among victims and perpetrators of domestic violence while participating in the “Blue Cards” procedure. The study participants were 30 female domestic violence victims, ranged in age between 21 and 58 years (M = 4,33; SD = 9,19), and 30 male perpetrators of domestic violence aged between 22 and 56years old (M = 36,97; SD = 10,06). Aggression syndrome was measured using the Inventory of Psychological Aggression Syndrome (IPSA II), and the stress level was assessed by the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). The prospective study used a test-retest procedure. Both aggression and stress were examined in the whole sample of 60 individuals twice: at baseline and six months after the “Blue Cards” procedure was introduced. Participants have rated self-report aggression syndrome and stress, and also they have assessed the aggression syndrome of his/her partner. Nonparametric Wilcoxon signedrank tests have been used for test-retest comparisons. The results show that active participation in assistant activities decreased the level of stress in domestic violence victims and their perception of perpetrators’ aggression syndrome. The “Blue Cards” procedure may be considered an effective method of supporting victims and preventing domestic violence among perpetrators.Pozycja Charakter relacji rodzinnych a dobrostan psychicznyKrok, Dariusz (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2011)This article reviews theoretical and empirical advances in research on the character of family relationships and subjective well-being. The concept of subjective well-being is defined in accordance with the traditional approach as a category that includes a cognitive evaluation of one’s life and the balance of positive emotions relative to negative emotions. This term has received a growing interest in the psychological research on human happiness reflecting the perpetual human tendency to search for factors that contribute to our quality of life. The relations between family relationships and well-being are presented in three dimensions describing the following interactions: husband – wife, parents – children, and among siblings. The analyses of husband – wife relationships suggest that these interactions affect their well-being at multiple levels. Although the relations between marriage and subjective well-being is well recognized, the effect sizes are rather small. It is a result of other factors moderating the relations e.g. social classes, age, culture, timing of live events, social expectations. A well-established findings regarding parents and children point out that the parents’ relationships of support, warmth, and intimacy positively influence their children’s well-being. Family relationships are changed from more hierarchical relationships at the beginning of adolescence to more egalitarian relationships by late adolescence. The research on siblings shows that better relationships with brothers and sisters lead to better adjustment during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Even after controlling for level of parental and peer support, greater support from siblings is associated longitudinally with higher levels of emotional and social support and better adjustment. The results point at positive connections between siblings’ helpful and affirmative relationships and their well-being.Pozycja Choroba w rodzinie. Zastosowanie metodologii teorii ugruntowanej do analizy funkcjonowania rodziny w sytuacji chorobyMazurek, Emilia (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2013)The intention of the author is to encourage the methodological reflection on the possibility of using the grounded theory methodology in the analysis of the situation of a person affected by a chronic somatic disease and their family. The author presents the key assumptions of classical grounded theory methodology developed by Barney G. Glaser and Anselm L. Strauss. Then, the author describes the constructivist grounded theory methodology by Kathy Charmaz, comparing its concept with classical approach. The rest of the text presents the experience of chronic somatic disease as a research area in which the methodology of grounded theory may be useful. Referring to the system model of the family, the author argues that the disease impacts the patient and their family. It should be considered by a researcher who uses the grounded theory methodology.
