Macintyre and Hauerwas on Metaethics and Science
Patterson, Colin (Wydawnictwo Diecezjalne Adalbertinum, 2013)
The article seeks to sketch the outlines of an approach, based upon the work of MacIntyre and Hauerwas, which provides Christian moral theology with some congenial meta-ethical equipment. This sketch relies upon an examination of three concepts – freedom, virtue and narrative – together with the occasional sideways glance at contemporary secular moral traditions with which the Christian tradition finds itself in competition. The author suggests that this approach has to pay more attention to what seems to be a basic epistemological difference between so-called scientific and moral narratives. He claims that, in opposition to the MacIntyre/Hauerwas affirmation that “the activities of natural science” are merely another “species of moral activity,” science in some way transcends the boundaries of rival moral traditions, though not as moral tradition, but in the subordinate role of an instrument of traditions. He gives some hints at possible ways of dealing with this challenge.

Czas jako droga konieczna i powszechna między Bogiem a człowiekiem
Wojda, Jacek (Wydawnictwo Diecezjalne Adalbertinum, 2013)
The author develops a threefold approach to the issue of time. First, tracing the Aristotelian and Thomistic understanding of time, he undertakes metaphysical considerations on time in its reference to man and God. Secondly, having determined the position of time in the world of real beings, he analyzes the notion of religious time developed by the Catholic Church on the basis of historical events whose heroes were people connected with the revealing God, in particular with Jesus Christ. Thirdly, having identified the time of the Church, he reconstructs the specific way of experiencing time by a Christian. All these three approaches together give an integral perspective to man in time which – according to the author – may be best conceived as a human pathway to God.

Sobreelevación de la solidaridad a Cuerpo de Cristo
Ferrer, Urbano (Wydawnictwo Diecezjalne Adalbertinum, 2013)
The article opens with an exposition of the notion of solidarity as an interpersonal link, in opposition to the conventional association of individuals. In the first instance, such solidarity characterizes the Eucharistic communion which embraces those who feed from the same Bread and Wine, and is not understood as a passive effect of the sacrament, but as moral virtue which springs up from the cooperation with Jesus the Redeemer. Secondly, solidarity assimilates the life of a man to that of his Saviour which is echoed with the words of St. Paul: “and yet I am alive; yet it is no longer I, but Christ living in me” (Ga. 2, 20). And, thirdly, solidarity, which finds its basis in the Eucharist, can not expect its fulfilment in this earthly life of man, but only in reaching the glorious floor of heaven.

„Boże moce” w obronie narodu żydowskiego w świetle Ksiąg Machabejskich
Baran, Grzegorz M. (Wydawnictwo Diecezjalne Adalbertinum, 2013)
Analyzing the content of both Books of Maccabees, one can notice that their authors firmly emphasized the question of supernatural help which God had been giving to the Jewish people, who were under the rule of the Seleucid Empire. It is particularly visible in the struggle undertaken in defense of the Law, the homeland, the temple and native customs. Although battles were often fought against enemies of considerable military advantage, the troops of fighting Jews were in the end – with God’s help – victorious. Moreover, the miraculous intervention of God was described by the author of 2 Ma by means of supernatural revelations of mysterious characters in which God Himself revealed his own power as well as defended his people. Therefore, the Jews – being the witness of these events and keeping God’s interventions in the history of their own nation in mind – had no doubt that God Himself – showing his power – was fighting against their enemies. This conviction is clearly expressed in the following worlds of 1 Ma 12:15: “we have the support of Heaven to help us, thanks to which we have been delivered from our enemies, and they are the ones who have been brought low.” On the basis of the text of both books it can be seen that God’s help was usually a response to prayers full of faith, as it is stated in 2 Ma 1:8: “we prayed to the Lord, and our prayer was heard.” The efficacy of the prayer and – consequently – the support given by God were essentially dependent upon the fidelity to the Law of those who prayed and fought.

    Zasady postępowania dyscyplinarnego
Korzeniewska-Lasota, Anna (Wydawnictwo Diecezjalne Adalbertinum, 2013)
Disciplinary proceedings are these of repressive nature wherein penalties which limit the freedom and rights of a guilty person can be adjudicated. Such proceedings are diversified and have no pattern for developing models of the disciplinary responsibility of particular professions, including professions of public confidence. By focusing on the diversification of disciplinary proceedings, including the rules of such proceedings in particular models, the authoress opts for uniforming rules of the proceedings. She considers it necessary and possible to define basic rules of disciplinary proceedings which can be referred to while developing a code of disciplinary proceedings or different models of proceedings for particular occupation groups or professions. The article postulates rules which, according to the authoress, seem to be fundamental while not necessarily fit for all types of disciplinary proceedings. She notes that her suggestions are to be a proposal for the further discussion on developing standards of reliable procedures in disciplinary proceedings.

O Rzeczpospolitej Sztabińskiej, historii i pracy duszpasterskiej – wspomnienia księdza Jakuba Rółkowskiego jako dokument czasów
Rółkowska, Maria (Wydawnictwo Diecezjalne Adalbertinum, 2013)
The article presents the memoirs Thirty years of my priestly work in Sztabin parish by father Jakub Rolkowski, and the biography of their author. Jakub Rolkowski has been a parish priest in Sztabin for 40 years – from 1901 until his death in 1941. His book is a fourfold document of the history of the Sztabin area in 1901-1931. First, it presents the Republic of Sztabin in 1820-1854 and Karol Brzostowski the count, who established it. Secondly, it is the document which describes the first three decades of XX century in Podlasie area – among others things it depicts the first world war and its components like fights, damages, arrests, exiles and executions. Thirdly, it features the every day life of the parish priest in Sztabin: his engagement in the building and rebuilding of the church, and his regular contacts and relations with his parishioners. Fourthly, the book delivers a lot of important biographical data on its author, father Jakub Rolkowski.
