Eucharystia sakramentem chrześcijańskiej inicjacji. Aspekt teologiczno-liturgiczny
Migut, Bogusław (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
The author of the article aims to present the position of the Eucharist in Christian initiation. He postulates the revision of the present pastoral practice where Confirmation is the last sacrament of initiation. He also presents theological justification of the order of the sacraments of initiation along with the Eucharist being the complement of Baptism and Confirmation and the crowning of the whole process which, thanks to the Eucharist, becomes a continuous initiation. The author puts forward the ecclesiologenetic argument – the establishment of the Church is completed on the day of Pentecost and only this makes the Eucharist possible; the argument of the initiation of Jesus, who is revealed to the world as the Son of God and anointed with the Holy Spirit, while the entirety of Christ’s mystery, especially the Paschal Mystery, is sacramentally present in the Eucharist; the ecclesiological argument – through Baptism and Confirmation man enters the reality of the Church, becomes a priest and the common priesthood is particularly realized in the Eucharist thus contributing to the building of the Church and the consecration of the world. The author also emphasizes the eschatological dimension of the Eucharist and its bidirectional character. The Eucharist is the gateway into eschatology, the participation in the heavenly liturgy – ‘the eternal Eucharist’, but also it is the presence of eschatology in the dimension of time and space.

Pneumatohagijny wymiar sakramentu święceń w świetle pontyfikału rzymskiego
Bartocha, Waldemar (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
The article presents the role of the Holy Spirit in the liturgy of the sacrament of holy orders on the basis of the “Roman Pontifical.” The presence and specificity of the Third Divine Person’s action is particularly manifested in the gestures and words belonging to the essence of the sacrament of holy orders, that is, in the laying on of hands and in the prayer of ordination. In the hieratic and solemn gesture of laying on of hands before the prayer of ordination, the pneumatophoricity of the sacrament of Holy Orders is manifested, because the candidates for episcopate, presbyterate and deaconate anointed with the Holy Spirit are destined to serve Christ. The hermeneutical analysis of ordination prayers for bishops, priests and deacons makes it possible to distinguish the titles attributed to the Holy Spirit in the various degrees of the sacrament of holy orders and to describe the results expected from his coming. These titles show the specificity of the power of the Holy Spirit given to bishops, priests and deacons during ordination. Epicleses clearly indicate that the Holy Spirit is the dispenser of the grace of the priesthood. In episcopal ordinations, candidates receive the Spirit of being a shepherd, necessary for the wise and prudent guidance of the People of God. Bishops are also endowed with the High Priestly Spirit as they have the fullness of the sacrament of Holy Orders. Both attributes of the Holy Spirit present in the liturgy of bishops’ ordination are in close correlation with each other, because the bishop, having full priestly power, is at the same time the one who, as a pastor, governs and directs the given Church. In the presbyter’s ordination, there is a request for the Spirit of holiness to be renewed in the hearts of the candidates so that they may carry out faithfully the office of second-degree priestly ministry. Thanks to the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the presbyters are imprinted with a special mark and as a result they become like Christ the Priest. In the ordination of the deaconate God is asked to send the Holy Spirit over the candidates to strengthen them with the sevenfold gift of his grace to carry out faithfully the work of ministry to the People of God, which develops in three characteristic strands: in liturgy, in the ministry of word and love, always in communion with the bishop and his presbyters.

    Pneumatologiczny charakter sakramentu bierzmowania
Litawa, Karol (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
The pneumatology of the Sacrament of Confirmation is the basis of the theological understanding of this sacrament. By the anointing of the chrism on the forehead made by the minister with the proper formula: „Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit”, the person is able to bear witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit makes the faithful not only mature but rather gifted and strengthened to the missionary work of the Church in the local dimension as well as the whole community of the Mystical Body of Christ.

Reforma liturgiczna jest nieodwracalna. Głos w sprawie tendencji powrotu do liturgii przedsoborowej („trydenckiej”)
Semenova, Viktoriya (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
Wobec rosnącej popularności ekstraordynarnej formy obrządku rzymskiego i przeciwstawiania jej nowej formie, autor postanowił podzielić się kilkoma refleksjami z pozycji badacza liturgii i prawa.

The article is a vote in discussion about the conciliar reform of liturgy, that is today not seldom criticized, or even questioned by the followers of the former Roman rite. For that reason the conciliar theology of liturgy is briefly recalled. Proper understanding and exploring of this theology may, according to the author, contribute to a better realization of the liturgical renewal, that in practice confronts various obstacles and difficulties. Yet these do not cross out the right of the reform itself which is invariably positively evaluated by the recent popes. Utter rejection of the liturgical reform would mean the lack of acceptance of the conciliar ecclesiology. The existence of two forms of the Roman rite within one Church is possible only under condition of mutual respect and appreciation as well as on the ground of positive reception of the entire teaching of the Vatican II (including liturgy), which is a duty of all catholics.

The Church and the Liturgy in the Contemporary World

Ryt oczyszczenia, celebrowanie Paschy i święta Namiotów w ujęciu proroka Ezechiela (Ez 45,18-25)
Jasiński, Andrzej S. (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
Ezekiel was the prophet who proclaimed the judgment of God over Israel and over the nations (Ezek 1–32), he also announced the renewal of the people of Yahweh and his land (Ezek 33–44). In the new environment of Israel there will be celebrated: the rite of purification (Ezek 45:18-20),the Passover and the Feast of Booths (Ezek 45:21-25), so Ezekiel refers to the tradition of the First Temple period. His account of these events was fully adapted to the new conditions, to the period of renewal of the nation and the land after the return of the people to the land of their ancestors. Prophet Ezekiel knows the traditions the of celebrating of the Feasts (חגים), he mentions them only in the context of the announcement of the New Temple law (Ezek 45:17.21.23.25; 46:11). They will be Feasts, marking the rhythm of the life of all Israel, centred around the temple and the glory of Yahweh (remaining in the temple).

Benedykt XVI a liturgia bizantyjska – praktyka celebracji papieskich
Dąbrowski, Maciej H. (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
In the article the use of Byzantine elements in papal liturgies was shown. To shed some light on the topic, a historical overwiev of Greek influences on the celebrations of bishops of Rome was presented. The matter of utilisation of Epistle and Gospel readings in a Byzantine way, both with and without the use of Greek language, was elaborated. The custom of papal liturgy, related to coincidence of Easter dates in Julian and Gregorian calendars, was discussed. Some other things, such as the use of Trisagion in Roman and papal liturgy, and use of some other typically Byzantine elements in particular celebrations, were mentioned. In the end a hypothesis concerning changes in relations between the Byzantine rite and papal celebrations in the times of Benedict XVI was proposed.

The Unification Mystery of Christ in Church The Orthodox View on the Preparation for Receiving of the Holy Eucharist
Apostolache, Ioniţă (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
The issue of this study is, as noted in the topic, “The Unification Mystery of Christ in Church”. We try to underline the Orthodox specifics from the patristical and apologetical point of view. Therefore, one of our principal point of the analysis is the preparation of priests and believers for the Eucharistic moment in the Orthodox Liturgy. In the apologetical approach of our presentation, we try to offer an actual interpretation of this Holy Sacrament, together with its necessity on the actual society and to offer some theological solution in the actual context.

„Idźcie i głoście!” Niewykorzystane szanse przepowiadania w roku liturgicznym?
Łysy, Hubert (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
The pastoral year abounds with liturgical and non-liturgical events, when in the Churches gather people which normally don’t live any liturgical life. They come “once in a blue moon”, that is for Christmas and the Feast of the Resurrection. They come on Ash Wednesday, for the blessing of food, at the celebration of the First Holy Communion, the Feast of Corpus Christi, on the occasion of Baptism, Confirmation, Wedding and Funeral. All the pastoral areas that have been mentioned, and there are more of them, are the chance to reach with the Joyous News all those who have come, are present in the flesh, but spiritually are more or less distant. This opportunity must be grasped by the diligent preparation of these liturgical and non-liturgical events. During preparation it is important to consider the fact that we have a recipient who is not only a “homo auditor”, but also a “homo spectator”. The author of the article, on the example of his parish, presents his own achievements in this regard and encourages to open oneself to the Holy Spirit, who in Poland, a missionary country, is present and acts.

Słowo podstawowym narzędziem gregoriańskiej techniki kompozytorskiej w adaptacji wzorców modalnych do nowych tekstów
Ferfoglia, Susi (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
In the article the author asks how the Gregorian melodies were created? How were they written down? Is it possible that the notation may be a tool for a deeper understanding of the text? In this way the author explores the secrets of the Gregorian compositional technique – which is based on using the same formulas or even the whole melodies for different texts. It is clearly visible that the Gregorian composer “thought through the perspective of the word”. Each new text has a different verbal rhythm, resulting from the nature of the words, and this gives the same melody a new sense and a new meaning in a new verbal context. To convince oneself of the truthfulness of this statement and of the sophistication of the composer’s intervention, it is not enough to look only at the Vatican notation; one must reach for adiastematic notation, which conveys the rhythm of the intonation contour. Comparing the same melodies in different verbal contexts with divergent rhythms shows us that the same melody becomes for the composer a “pretext” to express something more. In the article, three melodies (graduals) based on the modal pattern of the fifth modus – plagal tritus – (Christus factus est, Exiit sermo, Ecce sacerdos magnus) were analysed. On their example, the author demonstrates how the modal pattern of plagal tritus has been adapted to the new text.

Repertuar liturgiczny w kościele pw. św. Jana Chrzciciela w Jodłowie na podstawie parafialnego inwentarza muzycznego z 1939 r.
Prasał, Andrzej (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
This article describes the inventory of musical pieces of the church of St. John the Baptist in Jodłów in the Kłodzko county, which comprises 81 positions. The collection consisted predominantly of easily performable works for a four-part mixed choir with orchestra or organ accompaniment. Among various compositions, the local vocal and instrumental ensemble had at its disposal 34 masses (including six funeral masses), seven collections of graduals and offertories as well as nine litanies. A large group of musical pieces consisted of various choral arrangements of hymns, especially Marian and funeral hymns. Special attention should be given to the fact that church composers from the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries who were involved in the Cecilian movement were also represented. It is also very pleasing that Silesian artists, particularly artists working in the Kłodzko valley, were included as well. The collection presented in this article is proof of the fairly decent standard of musical culture in the parish church of Jodłów, which is on par with the practice in other rural parishes of the Kłodzko region. Unfortunately, due to the lack of source information, the question must remain unanswered in how far the compositions contained in the inventory found their way to the repertoire performed by the local choir of Jodłów.

Inspiracje kultem maryjnym w twórczości Andrzeja Panufnika
Fabiańska-Jelińska, Ewa; Nowak, Weronika (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
One of the areas of inspiration idiomatic for Andrzej Panufnik’s work is undoubtedly the sphere of the sacrum. Author of the Symfonia Sacra, as well as Henryk Mikołaj Górecki or Wojciech Kilar, many of his works devoted to the cult of the Mother of God, spread by believers since the 3rd century, when the prayer to the Blessed Virgin arose. In the works: Songs to the Virgin Mary for string sextet, Sinfonia votiva and Prayer to the Virgin of Skempe for solo voice or choir unisono the composer united the personal sphere with the universal sphere – he expressed not only personal feelings and reflections, but also the category of Polishness connected with the cult of Mother of God. However, in the context of Andrzej Panufnik’s religious output, the Marian theme seems to remain an area that remains undiscovered. For this reason, taking into account the composer’s biographical context, it is worth attempting a deeper reflection on the indicated area of inspiration.

Wkład ks. profesora Jana Chwałka w organologię i sztukę budowy organów
Szymanowicz, Maria (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
Fr Jan Chwałek was born on January 7, 1930 in Wola Baranowska, died on November 30, 2018 in Babule, and was buried at the parish cemetery in his hometown. In the years 1961–2005 he was a lecturer at the Institute of Musicology of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, in 1984–2005 the head of the only one in Poland Chair of Instrumentology. At the beginning of his scientific career he dealt with Gregorian chant, and after gaining independence – organological issues. Particularly noteworthy is the book Budowa organów [Organ Construction], the only such work in Polish literature. It contains a description of the mechanisms and organ voices, and individual issues are illustrated with technical drawings. Fr Chwałek developed a method for testing the sound structure of organs using a horizontal and vertical scale, and described in detail three tuning systems for keyboards. He was also an organist, he built nine organs. In some of them he used unusual construction solutions. He designed several dozen new organs. He participated in the conservation of historic instruments in Kazimierz Dolny, Olkusz and Jędrzejów. He performed several dozen organ conservation works, mainly in the Sandomierz diocese.

Obiekty sztuki sakralnej we francuskich kolekcjach prywatnych w XIX wieku – wybrane przykłady
Białonowska, Magdalena (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)
The article deals with the problems of the functioning of sacred art objects in private collections created in France in the first half of the 19th century. In the context of the vandalism of the Great French Revolution, a movement of theorists arose who opposed destruction and advocated the protection of art objects as monuments of French history. This movement inspired collectors’ interest in sacred art, mainly medieval. Alexandre Lenoir (1761–1839) was mentioned in the article, followed by collections of medieval religious art created by: Alexander Du Sommerard (1779–1842); Pierre Révoil (1776–1842); Alexandre Sauvageot (1781–1860); Louis Fidel Debruge-Dumenil (1788–1838) and Jean-Baptiste (1792–1871) and Louis (1827–1888) Carrand. Analysis of the content and history of these collections allowed to draw the conclusions about the changing motives for which collectors of the first half of the 19th century collected sacred art objects, from the need to save French art monuments to treating them as research material.
