It analyses the recommendations of the last three popes to priest preachers. The first part focuses on identifying the main influences that shape attitudes of fidelity in the preaching ministry. The second part examines the environment in which the preaching ministry takes place while testing a preacher’s faithfulness. The conclusion of the paper offers specific recommendations for preachers.

The Importance of Homiletics and Communication
Ostafiński, Witold (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
Formal homiletics, which treats the homily as an act of interpersonal communication involving the connection of four elements, the preacher, the listener, the content and the mode of transmission, demands that contemporary developments in communication studies concerning the art of effective transmission be considered. The article discusses the importance of homiletics and communication theory and their interrelationship concerning the collection, analysis, interpretation and transmission of preaching content. Additional material is provided on the relationship between neuroscience and homiletics, revealing their mutual relationship and the need for collaboration in the effective communication of God's Word. Homiletics and communication theory are included in a comparative analysis in the context of preaching metadiscourse. The article aims to collect and organise the current state of knowledge in this area.

The Loss of the Sense of Sin and the Arrogance of Life: Challenges for Today’s Evangelization
Nykiel, Krzysztof (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
At the beginning of 2014, during his morning meditations, Pope Francis, when referring to a famous phrase by Pius XII, stated that losing the sense of sin is the evil of this civilisation, an evil that strengthens Christian mediocrity and is inversely proportional to directing attention towards – and constructing – the Kingdom of God among men. The categories of sense of sin and sense of guilt, at least in theory and without generalisations, become understandable in the context of the Christian experience and the ecclesial consciousness; yet, when the human horizon is extended, the two concepts do not find a right to citizenship because the question is not even raised. The children and creators of contemporary culture, the men and women of our time, although directed towards the Kingdom of God, are strongly influenced by the global and plural secularist mentality, and this has a negative impact on their attitudes, behaviour and expressions of their existence. The Church, both within herself and outside herself, poses to herself the question of how she can redirect the expressions of this unprecedented anthropology towards Gospel values. The problem is not so much how to bring to the surface the sense of guilt and sin but, rather, how to restore or generate faith in the hearts of men. Effective evangelisation has the task of bringing back the Gospel into men’s hearts and educating in a sense of God so that contemporary man can have a higher paradigm (God) on which to base himself.

Secularization, the New Phase of Evangelization and Pope Francis’ Idea of an Ecclesiastical University
Musiewicz, Piotr (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
The main goal of this article is to present the relationship between secularization and the Catholic Church’s post-conciliar call for evangelization, including the new phase of evangelization, as well as to present the relationship between Pope Francis’ idea of an ecclesiastical university and the new phase of evangelization. To realize this aim, meanings of secularization, the new phase of evangelization and the idea of an ecclesiastical university are defined and presented, which in itself fills – to some extent – a research gap on the new phase of evangelization (shown here concerning evangelization and the new evangelization) and Francis’ idea of an ecclesiastical university. The paper argues that the call for evangelization is due to recognizing the secularization trend by the Catholic Church and that every ecclesiastical university receives the clear task of evangelization in the new phase of evangelization.

Interpretation of the Word of God in the Liturgy on the Example of the Fifth Sunday of Lent, Cycle A
Malewicz, Remigiusz (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
The guiding principle that should accompany a homilist's interpretation of biblical texts in the liturgy is fidelity to the Bible and the Church, which has the mission of guarding and explaining the Word of God. This means that a homilist must use proven tools, including biblical hermeneutics. In the case of homiletical preaching, which takes place during a liturgical event, it is also a matter of taking into account that “the liturgical setting is an essential key to interpreting the biblical passages proclaimed in a celebration” (Homiletic Directory, no. 15). This article presents how to interpret the Word of God in the liturgy based on the example of the Fifth Sunday of Lent, cycle A. Taking into account hermeneutical principles makes it possible to emphasize the kerygmatic meaning of the Mass readings every Sunday.

Evangelization in Terms of Indigenous Latin-American Theology
Hajduk, Ryszard (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
Indigenous theology, which appeared in Latin America in the mid-1980s, practiced by the followers of Christ, wants to serve the dialogue between native religions and Christianity. It has its method, its subject is the faithful people, and the main object of reflection is the spiritual experience accumulated in native cultures since pre-Columbian times. Indigenous theology wants to contribute to evangelization attracting people and to the authentic inculturation of the faith in areas inhabited by native Amerindians. An analysis of the texts written by Indigenous theologians leads to the discovery of how this theology is practiced, and especially what its view of evangelization is. Despite its shortcomings and doubtful approaches from the perspective of Catholic orthodoxy, indigenous theology can enliven the Church-wide discussion on evangelization and contribute to its dynamism in modern times.

El ministerio de catequista, vocación e identidad a la luz del “Directorio para la catequesis”
Blanco, Juan Carlos Carvajal (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
The publication of the Apostolic Letter Antiquum ministerium, through which Pope Francis institutes the lay ministry of a catechist, presents the opportunity to study how the figure of the catechist has been treated in the Post-Council Directories of catechesis. From this framework and with an analytical-synthetic methodology, the article delves into the profile of the catechist as presented in the Directory for Catechesis (2020). The work highlights the vocation’s theological-ecclesial dimension and a catechist’s identity, including their functions in carrying out the catechesis that, at present, the new evangelizing stage of the Church demands. In this way, the study manifests the value and scope of the institution of the catechist ministry.

Reading the Euchology of a Collect as an Inspiration in Proclaiming the Word of God in the Liturgy
Anagwo, Emmanuel Chinedu (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
This paper titled “Reading the Euchology of a Collect as an Inspiration in Proclaiming the Word of God in the Liturgy” argues that, in a Collect’s oration, the Church is always at prayer in her liturgical celebrations. This is because she is a praying Church who recognizes her ultimate dependence on God. Despite all the provisions by the Church to this effect, the Word of God contained in a Collect is not understood optimally. The basic elements are dispensed indiscriminately by the presiding minister. Unfortunately, one notices with dismay how this sacred responsibility is backsliding into hurriedly recited/sung words of the chief celebrant instead of God’s word at the Eucharistic worship. The unavailability of the dignified Roman Missal and the absence of well-functioning acoustics, to mention but a few teething problems, have negatively decimated contemporary Catholic liturgy. This is setting back the clock in projecting this veritable means to nourish the faithful with the Word of God which is always alive and active (Heb 4:12). This paper aims to demonstrate that every Collect is insightful in proclaiming the Word of God in the liturgy. Consequently, using expository, investigative and analytic methods, this paper challenges the worshipping community to understand their individual and collective roles when a Collect is being read at the liturgy, to promote the full active participation of all and ultimately glorify God and sanctify participants at worship.
