Developing an Attitude of Positive Tolerance Among Young People in Poland a Collective Case Study
Zellma, Anna (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
This paper presents the findings of a quality study conducted in 2021 on developing an attitude of positive tolerance among young people in Poland. The collective case study method was applied. Five cases of educational institutions were analysed whose statutes provide for the promotion of the pedagogy of tolerance inspired by the teachings of John Paul II. The research sample comprised: The Centre for the Thought of John Paul II, the “Opus of New Millenium” Foundation, the John Paul II Institute for Intercultural Dialogue in Kraków, the St. John Paul II Youth Aid Foundation “Wzrastanie,” and the Association of Friends of Catholic Schools. The educational programmes of these institutions mainly address young people in Poland. The study revealed that positive tolerance, based on an axiological foundation, occupies an important position in the activities of these institutions. Founded on the teachings of John Paul II, it incorporates human dignity, respect, the common good, responsibility, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, and cooperation. The study revealed that educational initiatives were diversified concerning the content and methodological solutions, whose aim is to discover the essence of positive tolerance and its boundaries. These create various opportunities to get to know another person, show respect, dialogue, change prejudices, cooperate, and build unity in diversity. Young people are encouraged to engage in intercultural and interreligious dialogue both directly and using the latest information and communication technologies that favoured the development of a positive tolerance attitude.

A Young Carmelite on Ice Skates. The Early Occasional Poetry of St. Titus Brandsma as a Literary Testimony of His Love of God, Life, and the Family
Polkowski, Marcin (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
The recently canonised Dutch Carmelite Titus Brandsma (1881–1942), World War II martyr, mystic, Catholic journalist and historian of spirituality, was also – what is less known – a talented poet. The article recalls his early occasional poetry, written in Dutch and Frisian between 1898 and 1906 for members of his immediate family. Its literary characteristics are presented, demonstrating that this poetry is a valuable testimony to the saint’s views on human life from an eschatological perspective, including topics on the family, marriage, and the relationship between children and parents. This justifies recognising St. Titus Brandsma’s occasional poetry as an expression of his unique poetic theology of the family. The article also includes an English translation of a hitherto untranslated poem by St. Titus Brandsma.

    Sacred Sites of the Amazon
Mich, Tadeusz (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
Scientists have studied different aspects of the complex reality of the Amazon Basin. Among the main areas of research are such topics as social organization, cosmology, mythology, ecological adaptations, and conservation of the tropical rainforest. One aspect that has not been addressed sufficiently is the archaeological investigations of the sacred sites of the Amazon. Due to their importance, this is why the sacred petroglyphs were chosen as the topic of our research. This article attempts to present the state of archaeological investigations in the Colombian Amazon and the importance of the sacred petroglyphs for our understanding of the Yucuna Indian culture.

La Santissima Trinità è “democratica”? La dottrina di Dio e le dottrine socio-politiche
Kowalczyk, Dariusz (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
Authentic faith in God, revealed to us in Jesus Christ, presents an incarnate faith that in some way connects the supernatural with the worldly experiences. Political theology reflects on how theology can or should influence social and political life. Theological monotheism was used to justify and fortify the power of the emperors. However, such attempts at times resulted in the abuse of Christian doctrine for the sake of politics. The possibility of correcting political theology was observed in Trinitarian theology, i.e. in the truth that in God, unity always goes hand in hand with diversity. God is not only one, but also threefold, that is, He creates a community of equality and otherness. Thus, we can indicate a Trinitarian style that could also be applicable in the field of modern socio-political doctrines. However, it shall be remembered, that just as there was an exaggeration in the theological justification of monarchy, there can also be an exaggeration in drawing the analogy between Trinitarian doctrine and democratic systems. By engaging in social life, the Church needs – following the words of the book of Revelation – preserve the prophetic and eschatological dimensions and proclaim that Deus semper maior, that is, that any similarity between God and creation corresponds to an even greater dissimilarity.

Die Interdisziplinarität in den theologischen Forschungen
Anderwald, Andrzej (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
Interdisciplinarity in researching the complexity of reality is finding more and more supporters among scientists. Since the Second Vatican Council, theology has also been more open to cooperation with other sciences, not only with the human, but also with the various disciplines of empirical science. The interdisciplinary openness of theology raises a number of questions. Does a theologian should listen to the voices of proponents of other sciences when their research disciplines have little or no interest in them? Does theology have something to say to the other sciences in interdisciplinary dialogue? Can the interdisciplinary profile of theology help to create an integral concept of man and the world? Can interdisciplinary research in theology contribute to the transmission of faith in a scientifically shaped worldview? The author gives a positive answer to the questions posed, arguing for the need to take into account interdisciplinarity in theological reflection. As justification, he gives three reasons resulting from the conducted analyses: firstly, interdisciplinarity in theological research as a way out of the one-dimensional scientific paradigm; secondly, interdisciplinarity as a possibility of a holistic view of nature and man; thirdly, interdisciplinarity as a new mode of faith accountability in a worldview shaped by natural science.

Spiritual Being in the Theology of Wincenty Granat
Adam, Anton (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2023)
Treatises on dogmatic theology draw attention to a whole spectrum of theological topics, among which the issue of angels also finds its place. Scholastic theology dealt with this issue within the framework of the treatise on God the Creator; however, it is not exceptional that it is also treated in a separate part. In this paper, we pay attention to spiritual creatures in the context of the eminent Polish theologian Wincent Granat who emphasized respect for the Christian tradition and pointed to the vital values of Christian dogmas. In his pre-Conciliar work Catholic Dogmatics, he discussed most of the issues of dogmatic theology using the scholastic method. In his post-Conciliar work Ku człowiekowi i Bogu w Chrystusie [To Man and God in Christ], the doctrine of angels comes to the fore in close relation to Christian anthropology and its personalistic orientation.
