Orders and Prohibitions for Sale? Moral Theology in the Age of Knowledge Commercialization
Zadykowicz, Tadeusz (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)
Nowadays, there are very strong aspirations aiming to link science with economy. These aspirations create specific problems for humanities which do not generate products, technology and patents for sale, and thereby do not bring measurable benefits to industry and universities. Moral theology, whose essential task is to define norms, orders and prohibitions, may rather seem to restrain innovative economy than to be its driving force. However, moral theology provides practical indications which can give a more human character to the technological development. It is possible only when its relationship with business at the level of scientific research is as brief as possible, and the financing is completely independent from the market laws.

Human Conception and the Status of Single-Celled Human Zygote from the Perspective of Catholic Bioethics
Wróbel, Józef (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)
In the discussions on the status of human zygote, the issue of its animation appears only occasionally. Current teaching of the Magisterium of the Church on the beginning of human life emphasises the fact that life of a new human being begins with the conception. The moment when single 2n diploid cell called zygote comes into being is very often considered as a start of a new human life. According to embryology, this takes place 12 to 24 hours after fertilization. The discoveries in epigenetics allow to claim the human character of a zygote is then defined. From the moment of conception, that is when the head of spermatozoon combines with oocyte cytoplasm and two pronuclei come into existence (the nuclei of both male and female gametes), the processes related to a new human life begin.

Using Animals for Education and Entertainment. Attempt at Theological and Moral Assessment
Smykowski, Krzysztof (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)
The article seeks to evaluate the use of animals for educational and entertainment purposes in terms of theology and morality. After a synthetic presentation of the multifaceted concept of animal rights, an attempt is made to formulate, in an analogical way, an evaluation of the selected forms of using animals: from establishing zoological parks and organizing sports competitions to fights involving animals. Among those animal uses, the most serious objections are made to animal fights among animals themselves or against men, as they cause the suffering of living creatures that cannot be justified by a mere wish to provide entertainment for a specific social group.

Theological and Anthropological Analysis of Procreation in the Context of Contemporary Debate on Naprotechnology
Picur, Tomasz (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)
Immersed in the world dominated by pragmatism, contemporary man seems to be thinking and functioning only according to the criteria of effective acting. However, life experience, philosophical reflection, and the truth of Revelation lead to the conclusion that the laws of nature must be respected in the name of care for man and for one’s genuine good, even though they may, in certain cases, limit the effectiveness of acting and the possibility to acquire current profit. This article justifies the necessity to respect natural law in the sphere of transmission of human life. The starting point of this scientific reflection is the theological vision of values and of the inviolability of human life on the basis of the description of creation from the Book of Genesis. The fundamental truths and moral norms are being neglected nowadays as ‒ being so proud of modern technological achievements ‒ man makes himself the creator and the master of human life. Although such activities seem impressive from the scientific point of view, they actually result in a number of serious contemporary and future threats. The second part of the article presents alarming aspects of artificial interventions in the sphere of life transmission. By exposing the threats and by trying to prevent them in the sphere of infertility treatment, the Church opposes the methods of artificial insemination and becomes engaged in promoting naprotechnology which is a method that expresses genuine humanism, and which gives hope not only to the parents who want to have a baby but also to the mankind that longs for propitious future.

    Basic Ethical Terms of Confucianism
Nowosad, Sławomir (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)
Confucianism has been a leading Chinese philosophical and ethical tradition for a long time. Not just Confucius himself but also Mencius and Xunzi contributed to its development over the centuries. In this paper the principal ethical notions of Confucianism–junzi, dao, ren and li – are characterized in their rich essence and unique context. Though ostensibly having much in common, those concepts can be paralleled to the Western ones only with difficulty and to a limited extent.

The Love of God as a Gift and a Commandment in the Light of the Encyclical "Deus caritas est" by Benedict XVI
Kluz, Marek (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)
Love, which according to Pope Benedict XVI is the essence of Christianity, must be re–presented (presented anew) today, because God loves everyone without exception. The message of divine love must also be properly explained. Therefore, the purpose of this work is to present theological and moral truth about God who loves and is love in the light of the teaching of Pope Benedict XVI contained in the encyclical Deus caritas est. The work shows reciprocal love of God and man, with particular emphasis on the priority of God’s love. The issue of human response to God’s love, which finds its fulfillment in the commandment of love, is further illustrated. Moreover, the relationship between the love of God and the love of neighbor, which have always been interpreted together, has been presented.

Confession of Men. Introduction to the Research
Derdziuk, Andrzej (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)
The issue of men’s confession is very little developed, although it is seem as an important research problem. Contemporary conditions of experiencing masculinity include changes in civilisation and the development of various types of therapies which, despite revealing wounds, do not always help to overcome them. Interdisciplinary research on confession of men shows that their motivation to recourse to the sacrament of penance includes the desire to meet an understanding confessor who will help them regain confidence and self–reliance. Willingness to overcome weaknesses lies at the heart of seeking help in mastering one’s lusts and sins. Men’s different approach to moral problems consists of their willingness to solve the problem quickly, or of resorting to illusory escape from the experienced difficulty. It is important to show the theological aspect of confession which is an encounter with Christ who defeated sin and death in the mystery of the cross and resurrection.

Never-Ending Story of the Use of Vaccines Derived from Aborted Infants. Part I: Critique of Teleological Proportionalism and Consequentialism from the Perspective of Moral Theology
Balák, René (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2017)
The standard obligatory use of unethical vaccines derived from aborted human foetuses is currently a significant moral theological problem. It forms a serious dilemma of conscience especially when people become aware of the connection between their own actions and the morally wrong act committed by another person. However, a few years after the release of the declaration of Pontifical Academy for Life Moral Reflections on Vaccines Prepared from Cells Derived from Aborted Human Foetuses (5th May 2005), this serious problem was pushed into oblivion. Moral assessment is still dominated by consequentionalism and proportionalism which reject papal Magisterium ordinarium.
