Abstract

IV Księga Sybillińska, mająca swoje korzenie w judaizmie diaspory greckiej, jest dziełem, które miało na celu skłonienie pogan do zmiany ich stylu życia. Sybilla w sposób obrazowy udziela swoim słuchaczom pouczeń o charakterze moralnym. Elementy eschatologiczne pojawiające się w tekście księgi są traktowane jak narzędzie do osiągnięcia zamierzonego celu. Wizja kary ma służyć zachęcie do porzucenia grzesznego życia. W idei kary prezentowanej przez autora dzieła możemy zauważyć pewną etapowość: od kary o wymiarze pedagogicznym do kary wiecznej, nieodwracalnej.The Fourth Sibylline Book, rooted in Greek-Jewish diaspora, is a piece written in order to make pagans change their ways. The Sibylline instructs on morality by the use of illustrations. The eschatological elements in the text are used as tools, providing means to an end. The image of punishment is meant to encourage abandoning the life of sin. We may notice astageability of sorts in the concept of punishment portrayed by the author of the book: from a punishment as a pedagogical measure, to punishment that is eternal and irreversible.
