Abstract

A lot of clinicians share a belief about strong split between the reality of faith and psychical sphere in a clinical concept. Introduced by ICD-10 diagnostic category trans and spirit possession significantly emphasizes the existence of such a split. In the article the author characters applied diagnostic criteria of spirit possession, presents psychopathologic characteristics of the phenomenon based on literature data and attempts to discuss on possible relations between ecclesiastics and psychotherapists. He points to the value of dialog in the interest of a patient welfare as well as to the closeness of helping nature in spite of existing ontological differences between religion and psychiatry as well as psychology.
