„Faust” Goethego jako tragedia rozwoju nowoczesnościw ujęciu M. Bermana

Abstract

Marshall Berman jest amerykańskim filozofem, zajmującym się problematyką nowoczesności. Inspirowany marksizmem badacz, śledzi przemiany nowoczesnego ducha w nowożytnej historii. Według Bermana tragedia Goethego zajmuje wyjątkowe miejsce w literaturze europejskiej. Wynika to z tego, że zdaniem autora The Politics of Authencity, w losach Fausta, ogniskują się modernizacyjne dylematy rozwoju jednostki i społeczeństwa na przełomie XIX wieku. W swoim nowatorskim odczytaniu XIX wiecznej tragedii Goethego, traktuje proces samopoznania głównego bohatera, jako kompozyt trzech stadiów. Kulminacją duchowego rozwoju Fausta jest etap, który Berman określa mianem „dewelopera”, rozgrywający się w drugiej części tragedii. Berman wychodzi poza kanoniczną drogę interpretacji Fausta w kluczu romansu głównego bohatera z Małgorzatą, porzuca także teologiczną ścieżkę interpretacji dramatu Goethego. Diabelski pakt zawarty miedzy Faustem a Mefistofelesem jest nowym manifestem sprzymierzenia się ludzkich marzeń o pełni i mrocznymi potęgami postępu technicznego.Marshall Berman is an American philosopher, dealing with questions of modernity. Inspired by Marxism philosopher follows changes of the modern spirit in modern history. According to Berman, the tragedy of Goethe occupies a unique place in European literature. According to the author Politics of authenticity the fate of Faust focused dilemmas of modernization and social development at the turn of the nineteenth century. In his novel reading of the nineteenth century Goethe's tragedy, Berman treats the process of self-discovery of the main character, as a composite of three stages. The culmination of the spiritual growth of Faust is the stage, that Berman called “developer”, which takes place in second part of the tragedy. Berman goes beyond the canonical way of interpretation of Faust in key affair of the main character of Margaret, also abandons it the path of theological interpretation of Goethe's drama. Devilish pact between Faust and Mephistopheles, is a new manifesto alliance between human dreams of fullness, and dark powers of technological progress.
