Etiopskie „Apokryficzne Akta Apostołów”

Abstract

The present paper contains a Polish translation of three items from the Ethiopic collection of the “Apocryphal Acts of the Apostles” (“Gädlä Ḥawaryat”), together with a historico-literary introduction. The Ethiopic (Geez) collection is a translation from Arabic made in the 14th century, whereas the latter was in its turn provided on the basis of Coptic Acts, which go back to the fifth / sixth centuries. The items translated here are “The preaching of Simon the son of Cleophas”, “The martrydom of Simon the son of Cleophas”, and “The martrydom of Saint Luke”. The Polish translation is based on the Ethiopic text edition published by E.A.W. Budge, “The Contendigs of the Apostles”, London 1899, with occasional use of other manuscripts from the collection of the British Library.
