Jezus Chrystus i pokój. Refleksje św. Augustyna z Hippony

Abstract

W przedstawionym artykule zostało omówione nauczanie św. Augustyna na temat pokoju jako daru Chrystusa. Zbawiciel, odchodząc ze świata, pozostawił ludziom dar pokoju. To dzięki temu darowi, zgodnie z nauczaniem św. Pawła w Ef 2,14, odnawia się w człowieku harmonia pomiędzy duchem i ciałem, możliwe jest także pojednanie między Żydami, których reprezentują pasterze udający się z pokłonem do narodzonego Jezusa, i poganami, których przedstawiają mędrcy przybywający ze wschodu do Betlejem. Jednak pokój ziemski nie jest pokojem doskonałym. Człowiek bowiem ulega pożądliwościom, wchodzi w konflikty z bliźnimi, doznaje również w codziennym życiu wielu braków. Nie powinno to jednak nikogo zniechęcać do poszukiwania pokoju Augustyn uważa, że uczniowie Jezusa powinni na ziemi zabiegać o pokój, gdyż jest to najpewniejsza droga do osiągnięcia pokoju doskonałego w życiu wiecznym. Nie będzie wówczas żadnych konfliktów, a jedynie nieustanne przebywanie w bliskości Boga.

The article discusses the teaching of St Augustine on the subject of peace as a gift of Christ. As he was leaving the world, the Savior gave people the gift of peace. According to the teaching of St. Paul in Eph 2:14, it is due to this gift that the harmony between the human spirit and body are restored. It is also possible to reconcile Jews, represented by the shepherds coming to adore the newborn Christ baby, and Gentiles, represented by the Magi arriving from the East. Yet earthly peace is not a perfect peace, for man gives in to lusts, comes into conflict with his neighbors, and suffers from many shortcomings in everyday life. However, none of this should discourage anyone from seeking peace. S Augustine thinks that Jesus’ disciples ought to strive for peace, since peace is the surest way to achieve the perfect peace of eternal life. There, there will be no more conflicts but a constant closeness to God.
