Abstrakt
The article treats of the mystery of the Divinity of the Holy Spirit and the question of His origin. The major points are: the pneumatological inheritance of the New Testament (point I); the beginnings of the trinitarian theology (point II); the experience of the early Church challenged by the pneumatomachi (so called “enemies of the Spirit”) (point III); the official position of the Church – taken in 381 by the Council of Constantinople – on the Divinity and the origin of the Holy Spirit (point IV); the experience of the Church challenged by the later addition of Filioque (“and the Son”) to the creed (point V) and the ecumenical approaches to resolve this controversial problem (point VI). The author concluded his article with the words The Catechism of the Catholic Church (nos 685-686).
