Abstract

One of the issues that, Karol Wojtyla, later Pope John Paul II, undertook in his book Love and Responsibility (first published in 1960), was an analysis of love between a man and a woman. His diseussion is somehow a descriptive definition of love, which consists of multiple statements. Each of them focuses on selected aspect of the phenomenon of love. For example, one aspect is reciprocity. At this point, the author of Love and responsibility writes: love by its very nature is not something unilateral, but it is something bilateral, something „between” persons, something social. It is essentially an interpersonal, and not an individual matter. Karol Wojtyla is, however, aware that the full definition of human love is not possible, because it touches the mystery of man as a person.
