Abstrakt
The article presents the Reformation views on the question of sacramentality of marriage. Its negation by Luther resulted from three causes. The first was the reduction of the number of sacraments to baptism and Eucharist only, as the two sacraments instituted directly by Christ himself (ab ipso Christo instituta). The second was the Reformation view on the grace as the foundation of sacraments (sola gratia) and the unique position of the Scripture in establishing the norms of faith (sola Scriptura). The third cause lied in the anthropological and historical presumptions pointing to the theological perspectives of the human nature and purely secular character of marriage. Today’s Lutheran theology points to the certain sacramental characteristics of marriage issued from the notion of Christ as primary sacrament (Ursakrament).
