Abstrakt

Morality is an integral part of religiosity, and a particular expression of morality in Christianity is the Ten Commandments. The Lublin School sees this collection of ethical norms as a special expression of divine and natural law. Therefore this article seeks answers to the following questions: do the ethical norms of the Ten Commandments also appear in the major world religions which do not see the Bible as a Holy Book? The aim of the research was: 1. To confirm or disprove the thesis that is generally accepted in thomistic circles that most people can perceive the order of natural law in their own conscience; 2. A descriptive confirmation of the thesis that there is only one code of ethics for the human race, rather than many codes of ethics. To reach this goal, the basic texts of Islam, Hinduism and Buddism were analysed. The result of the research was the observation that there is a covergence between the ethical norms contained in the Ten Commandments and the morality suggested by Islam and Buddism, but no such convergence for Hinduism. Therefore, it can be stated that: 1. The thomistic thesis that most people in the world can perceive the order of natural law in their conscience cannot be confirmed (the example of Hinduism refutes this); 2. A descriptive confirmation of the hypothesis that there is only one general human code of ethics is not possible. The research did however confirm in descriptive form ‒ that other thomistic theses are correct, for example: 1. The theses on the mistaken conscience being valid; 2. The thesis that only God can judge a particular person correctly.
