Abstract

Rev. Walerian Serwatowski is considered for the most reputed Polish exegete of the 19th century. Nowadays he is criticired for the use of emotional arguments in his works. However the latter was a characteristic for the style of the academic discourse of the time. The critics are not right. W. Serwatowski used philosophical ideas about genesis of religion (euhemerisme, primitive revelation) and ethnologic descriptions of religious rituals (Polish hasids).
