Abstract

As a result of migration, the faithful of the Eastern Catholic Churches often settle on traditional Latin territories maintaining sui iuris under the jurisdiction of the ordinary belonging to a different Church. The lack of pastoral care and the possibility to participate in the benefits of an organised Church structure may be the unwanted results of this situation. Therefore, both the Code of Canon Law and the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches include rules which are to provide the Eastern believers with proper care that can be implemented in a few ways: by erecting a separate hierarchy for the Eastern Churches on Latin territories or by appointing priests who would be responsible for the believers of the other rite, establishing dioceses and parishes of this rite and appointing an episcopal vicar.
