Starania wokół stanu zachowania Cudownego Obrazu na Jasnej Górze

Abstract

Taking care of the Miraculous Image of Our Lady of Jasna Góra is the honour, and at the same time the exceptional responsibility of the Pauline Order. The idea is to pass on this unique treasure of the Nation, and great sign ol the special presence of the Mother of God, to future generations in good condition. Father Józef Stanisław Płatek, former Superior General of the Pauline Order, shares his reflections and observations on this subject. His text consists of the following topics: maintenance ot the Miraculous Image throughout the history of Jasna Góra; the inspection of the image in 1977 by Tadeusz Dobrzeniecki, curator of the of the National Museum art gallery in Warsaw; the appointment in 1979 of a special committee which ensures the maintenance of the Image; the work and recommendations of that committee, the achievements of Professor Wojciech Kurpik in the maintenance of the Jasna Góra Icon. In the context of the Pauline responsibility for the stale of the Image, the author concludes his observations by reporting on the very unpleasant, almost unprecedented incident, which occurred at Jasna Góra on 9 December 2012. As many will be aware, there was an attempt to desecrate the Miraculous Image of Our Lady. Fortunately, the Icon was not damaged due to the previously installed bulletproof glass.
