Abstrakt
The present paper deals with the question of the meaning of the term palingenesia (παλιγγϵνϵσία) in Mt 19, 28. This notion, which occurs only once in Matthew’s Gospel (the only other New Testament occurrence of this word is in Tt 3, 5) has wide semantic range, which leads to dispute over the correct interpretation of palingenesia in Mt 19, 28. This study consists of three parts. At the beginning of the article the structure of pericope, where the verse Mt 19, 28 is, and its origin have been outlined. The second part contains the exegesis of essential issues in their context which throw additional light on the correct understanding of this term. Etymology of palingenesia focuses our attention on the ancient Greek civilization. Some aspects of anthropological and cosmological reality have been described by means of this word. Scholars admit that this term has eschatological import, but there is no agreement on its precise meaning in Matthaean passage 19, 28. The third part of this paper presents some theological conclusions which imply respective interpretative conceptions. This study leads us to the conclusion that an attempt to make a synthesis of the cosmological dimension and the observed occurrences of the linguistic patterns, allows us to obtain a better view of the meaning of the word palingenesia. The emerging view from the analysed term – palingenesia – creates an idea of the renewal of cosmos that can be understood as a definition of the coming fulfillment of God’s kingdom.
