„Clavis” Pseudo-Melitona z Sardem. Wczesnośredniowieczny słownik ponaddosłownej symboliki biblijnej

Abstract

The anonymous work called “Clavis”, written in the VIII century, probably in Gallia, has been in the past considered as a translation of a lost Greek work of the same title composed by Meliton of Sardes. Our article is a presentation and introduction to the “Clavis”. The following problems has been taken in consideration: 1. A hermeneutical introduction to the ancient and medieval biblical symbolism; 2. The presentation and main characteristics of the “Clavis”, 3. An analysis of a chosen fragment of the work; 4. A conclusion containing some thoughts on the possible actualization of the ancient and medieval more-than-literal interpretation of the Bible.
